Allstarjim
Baseball sucks, yet again. And Hunter Pence is still a douche.

Allstarjim
I think outside of SF fans, everyone was pulling for KC. Baseball needs a cinderella team to win it all... Really, a small market team. Did you wach the trophy and MVP award presentation? Erin Andrews needed defibrillators to try and find someone with a pulse. The Chevy rep that gave the Colorado to Bumgardner was like, "It's got cool technology stuff in it and stuff." There was more excitement at my grandma's funeral. fringe
Anchor Steam and Garlic Fries for everyone! Not sure how a 7 game world series that ends with the tying run on 3rd in the bottom of the 9th signals the end of baseball greatness, but what a way to go out! Kansas City played better than I thought they would and I think they would've won if they were more experienced. They tended to celebrate the wins a little too much while the Giants were more even keel. Plus there's no doubt that the Giants have the best infield in baseball. Allstarjim
I know it's hard for you to see it, fringe, because this is the greatest time ever to be a Giants fan, but most of America will remember this as another disappointment from baseball. And it really is because the Royals embodied this idea that the little guy can rise up and win, and they fell short, yet again. Baseball needs a small market champion. There have been mid-market champs, but they need the little guy to show that they can win it all, and this sport isn't all about the haves vs the have-nots. Of course, my opinion might change if the Mets win it all next year.
fringe
Yeah, I don't know Jim. I guess the novelty of having a team in there who hasn't been there in a long time is a good thing. But KC is not a hotbed for baseball, 25th in attendance when they were in it and an exciting team all year. Even behind the A's who have the worst stadium in baseball. So that hand wringing you saw was mostly from the bandwagon. You know, the Giants had the worst stadium in baseball and were 2 days away from moving to Tampa Bay in 1992. The new ownership came in at the 11th hour, kept the team in SF, got Barry Bonds (regardless of his legacy, he had a big role in saving the franchise), got a great stadium built and began to climb. I guess my point is that every team has their windmills to conquer. I'll watch any world series they put out there, but baseball needs a lot more than a small market team winning. It's become a very successful REGIONAL sport that doesn't have the national appeal anymore. Nor does it have the younger demographic or the attraction by the African American athlete. Those are just a few things that baseball needs to change.

Also compounded by the fact here in New York that I can't find the fucking game on the TV because I don't know what channel it is on.

Also compounded by the fact here in New York that I can't find the fucking game on the TV because I don't know what channel it is on. Talking about the playoffs? Yes, Fox Sports 1 was hard enough to find. But then there were some games on MLB channel for which 7 people in North America have subscriptions. Luckily, it comes through loud and clear on Wizywig without commercials.
Virginia Giant
I think it's good for baseball, I was rooting for KC too, but if you're gonna have a dynasty, how about one that has deep roots to the east coast, but isn't the Yankees or Redsox and plays on the west coast? The Giants are one of those teams who have a great history, and lets face it, baseball loves dynasties and no matter what anyone says, the whole idea that any team can win it all any year is boring. I like to see teams that build through the farm and hang on to their players and have a great run.
