And another thing...

Well.. he's a good RB and they're already giving Perkins more carries... I don't see a problem.

I see a problem in the fact that teams don't even respect our running game. Eli is having to throw too much to make up for it too. all the Eagles did was lay back and prevent the deep ball knowing we couldn't run. all the FG's were proof of it because they can't control the clock and wear teams down. that's not going to cut it in the playoffs against better teams.

I like the elusiveness that Paul Perkins has shown when in space but I haven't seen a whole lotta speed out there as well. I'd really like to see what an offseason in the weight room can do for him. He needs to do whatever Tom Coughlin did to Tiki Barber because Tom didn't just cure the fumbling problem.

Yea but that problem is rooted in the OL not so much the RB...

True, but nothing like a good back that can make his own holes.

You can put Barry Sanders back there.... not gonna work... We have what looks like a really good back in Perkins... the right side of our OL needs to upgraded yesterday.

Lol, Barry Sanders never had much of a line to run behind, Nas. But I think this team needs a good FB and blocking TE to help. The line could get better but I also think losing Will Johnson hurt us.

Or maybe his lines never got enough credit...

They definitely got more than enough credit. Sanders ran behind some bad OLs. He cracked 2000 when he finally had a decent line.

But their flavor of the run and shoot was real good for Sanders' game. It spread the D out wide and give Sanders lots of space to find/make his own hole. The OL almost didn't even matter. Sanders probably would have been less successful trying to run downhill out of an I formation, for example.

I'm concerned about the draft this year given early reports of a lackluster offensive line group. Hopefully some of the reviews improve as the offseason progresses and more in-depth studies are done. Because I for one, think that offensive line x2, tight end, and WR are more pressing than RB. A backup QB would be icing on the cake.

what about free agency? I'm actually more inclined to sign a proven young OL from another team...

4. Terron Armstead, LT, New Orleans Saints

After receiving the starting job late in the 2013 season, Armstead (90.9) has improved each year to become one of the best left tackles in the NFL. In 2015 pass-protection, he recorded a pass-blocking efficiency of 97.2—only bested by Joe Thomas. He’s also improved as a run-blocker each year, with a PFF grade of 92.8 in run-blocking last season, second-best for tackles behind only Dallas’ Tyron Smith. It should only be a matter of time before he makes the Pro Bowl every year.

5. Ryan Schraeder, RT, Atlanta Falcons

Currently, Schraeder (87.0) is a restricted free agent who was given a second-round tender. Assuming he signs it and doesn’t get a long-term deal, he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2017. Schraeder was our highest-graded right tackle of the 2015 season; he matched Armstead in pass-blocking efficiency (97.2) after allowing just three sacks, two hits, and 20 hurries.

6. Cordy Glenn, LT, Buffalo Bills

Like Jeffery, Cordy Glenn (85.0) has been given the franchise tag. This means he will either sign a long-term deal with the Bills, or it’s unlikely he will get the franchise tag again. The Bills’ left tackle allowed a sack or hit on one in every 138.8 pass-blocks, which was the second-best rate for left tackles in 2015 (just behind Joe Thomas).

8. Kevin Zeitler, G, Cincinnati Bengals

After being drafted in the first round in 2012, Zeitler (84.6) has played at least 800 snaps in all four years with the Bengals. Cincinnati picked up his fifth-year option this offseason, which will push him to 2017’s free-agent market. In all four seasons, he has graded above-average as a run-blocker and improved each year. He was the only right guard in 2015 with 500 or more pass-blocks and no sacks allowed.
