Jenning back on Sunday

I hope they're not rushing him back just because Hillis and Cox are out.

Rashad Jennings expected back, won't carry 'full load'

The New York Giants' struggling running game could be in for a boost Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Coach Tom Coughlin hinted that he expects running back Rashad Jennings to play, but added, "I don't intend for him to carry a full load," per the New York Daily News.

Jennings has been out since spraining his MCL in Week 5.

In his stead the Giants' running combination of rookie Andre Williams (2.9 yards per attempt) and Peyton Hillis (dealing with a concussion) has been stymied.

Jennings carried the Giants' rushing attack early in the season, toting it 91 times for 396 yards and two touchdowns. By far the team's most productive back, he'll face a stout 49ers' run defense, currently being led by rookie Chris Borland, allowing just 91.2 yards per game.

While Coughlin said he won't lean on Jennings, that could change if the back looks good early. Around The NFL's Conor Orr points out that Coughlin had similar comments about running back Andre Brown coming off a broken leg last season. Brown carried the ball 30 times in his first game off injury.

Why can't the Giants find guys like Chris Borland?

Don't know where you guys are getting this...things we've made a difference with a healthy Jennings stuff. Not like he was setting the world on fire when he was healthy. Take away the Houston game and he has 220 yards in four games with 2 td's and a 3.9 ypc avg

Jennings is the only NFL-caliber back on the roster right now. Williams might get there at some point but right now his vision is terrible.

He's a rookie and shows quite a bit... there's something to be said for hands-on training, and getting used to the playbook. Yes Jennings back is great (assuming the OL gets its act together), and Williams has been a great compliment when both of them are playing.

I won't bust the rookie's chops too much...he's a rookie and there have been too many comments by too many players over the years about the speed of the NFL game compared to college. I like what I've seen from Williams so far, but he's certainly not a starting RB yet. Good change of pace, but not a starting RB. Jennings is a starting RB talent, but has not proven to be overly reliable yet. NEITHER, should be overly relied upon. Tag team the running game, keep it unpredictable (i.e. give Williams some 1st & 10 carries and give Jennings some 3rd and 1 carries) and call it a day.

As to whether we'd have won any of these past 4 games with Jennings in the lineup...please. We got smoked in all phases in all 4 games.

To be fair what more do you expect for a rookie RB.

It's not like JR was expecting him to be the starter in the next couple seasons.

Rushing him back? The guy was originally out like 4 weeks, it's been 6.

Things might be different right now if we'd had a rushing game led by Jennings during this losing streak.

I'm just suspicious given he's back as soon as two other RBs are out.

3.9 beats 2.9. And Williams big issue was first down carries when he was getting 1 yard or no yards. 2nd and 6 beats 2nd and 9.

A solid rushing game improves the passing game. I'm not saying it definitively would have made a difference but having him running well in our wins certainly didn't hurt.

Besides pass pro and stuff RB is probly the easiest position for an nfl rookie to play coming from college.

Not many nfl RBs are raw at running the ball. You either you can or can't. The rookie can't. Most rookies struggle with pass pro, or holding the football, etc.

That said...

The OL hasn't been great.

Osi brings the truth. Running the ball in college is pretty much the same as running it in the NFL; see the hole, keep running. The holes are smaller and close quicker but it's not like WR where they're likely learning a whole new route tree.

He's a power back.....he needs better blocking.

I think Jennings has better vision, and I wonder if the game will slow down to the point where it helps Williams improve.

We'll see, I suppose.

Well at least Jennings confirmed that nobody is running behind this offensive line as is against a playoff caliber team. Although with Jennings back we did get some respect back for the ground game and it also opened up Donnell.

Luckily for us, Giants have decided to put Geoff Schwartz into the lineup against Dallas next week. Now I would be excited to tell you that we are going to put Schwartz in at LG, move Richburg to center and JD Walton to the bench. It isn't happening but we are going to put Schwartz in at RG and bench John Jerry. Lets see if that makes JD Walton a better center and Justin Pugh a better RT.
