Evan Engram

Engram Summary:

Last year: 65 catches for 926 yards (14.2 avg), and 8 TDs. for Ole Miss, Eli's alma mater.

Combine measurements follow:

Physical: 6'3" tall, 234 lbs, 10" hands, 33.5" arm length... all very strong measurements. Weight is on the low side for inline TE, but with movement measurements, it's a wow factor.

Timed measurables: 40 yard: 4.42 secs (to put in perspective, Odell Beckham ran a 4.43, Engram ran virtually the same time at 6'3" and 234 lbs; 1st among TE's at combine). 19 reps of 225 on the bench, 36 inch vert (excellent, 5th among combine TE participants), 125" broad (6th among combine TE participants), 3-cone of 6.92 secs (2nd only to O.J. Howard among combine particpants), 4.23 secs on 20 yard shuttle (3rd among combine particpants), 19 reps of 225, T-9th among combine participants.

Tape analysis: Physically and athletically abundantly gifted. Downfield threat; redzone threat. Concentration drops at times. Would like to see a little more fierceness in the physical competitiveness game. On-field quick-twitch a little lacking, relies on physical gifts too much (will not be as much as an advantage in the NFL). Never is an in-line blocker, but is a try-hard at blocking. Effort in route running seems to be on auto-pilot often. Plays a little too finesse, want to see him play more angry.

Guy was a beast in the underwear olympics but didn't see it on tape as much. He is a big wide receiver with a finesse game. He will be a weapon in the red zone at the NFL level. But he needs to learn to maximize his physical gifts and play more angry... if he does, he will be VERY special. C.O.D. in space, for a man his size, is really good. Doesn't matter if he doesn't look to fight through tackles, though. Bottom line, a 6'3" guy that has that kind of speed (4.42 40 combine), is stupid rare.

He's more if a big bodied WR than a TE that MacAttack was used to having in Green Bay.

I'll say it now you'll never see this guy pancake a LB or a corner for that matter in the NFL but he can't be covered by a LB or corner for that matter as well.

OBJ, Marshall, Shepard, and now Engram, there is zero excuse for this offense to ever be stalling like last season drive after drive.

I like the pick with Howard being taken by the Bucs.

I don't know how I feel about a 6 3" TE who can't block... Reminds me of yhe Beckam pick.... not OBJ.... the other Beckam.... let's hope I'm pleasantly surprised

To be fair though, Engram is an athletic freak and easily deserving of a first round pick, Beckham the failed experiment had a fourth round grade on him.

Won't need as much blocking when the defense has to cover a guy like this.

Exactly.

He's a good fit for the MacAttack offense. Little room to grow, guessing he'll eventually play about 240. If he's a willing blocker, he doesn't have to be a good blocker, not with the way he can stretch the D.

I'd like to think he's a big ass WR that can learn to block. If he can do what they think he can.....Oh man.

That's the thing, everything I read about the kid is he's one of the cleanest pass catchers in the draft.

His body control and speed are second to none and he could of easily been the first WR chosen in this draft if he wasnt a TE.

Smart kid too.

Love this pick and It's untrue Engram can't block he is fine on the perimeter which suits the Giants screen game. He excels on the out route and dig which are things Donnell and Tye were awful at, along with stretching the seam. They don't need him to be an inline blocker...that's what Ellison was brought in for

I have mixed feelings about this pick.

The good: I really think Engram is an elite talent from an athletic standpoint, and is going to be a great H-back/Move TE in the future. I can see him being like a Chris Cooley, but way better than Cooley was. Dude's speed is insane and he fits really well into the MacAdoo system. I think he can be better than Jordan Reed (who I think is a little overrated anyway).

The bad: I'm disappointed that we (once again) passed on a more complete linebacker (Foster, Cunningham), O-lineman (Lamp), Running Back (Cook) TE (Njoku) or CB (King) for a guy that's great at 1/3 of what you ask a TE to do, but is likely never going to be a very good blocker in either the run or pass game. Moreover, the team vowed to get more "physical" but this pick doesn't say they're serious about that with other, more physical players still on the board. Also, this pretty much takes George Kittle (the guy I really want on the team) off their draft board, and I think you can get a TE in this draft pretty much all the way into the 4th round that will give you most of what Engram does is the pass game, but much more in the blocking department.

Not horrified with the pick, but I don't feel great about it either. In the past though I've felt pretty iffy about Giants 1st rounders, but Reese seems to find good players there.

If he can just become an adequate blocker then awesome.

only 3 or 4 im not sure, but 3 or 4 wide receivers ran a faster 40 than him, and hes a te.

Yeah he seems like a willing blocker, if not a very good one. The other thing too is we had the TE that only did one thing well (Larry Donnell) for four years and he never set my world on fire either. Hopefully Engram can be a better player with a more useful role.

And if you check out the Engram/Reed simulcast there's no contest. The biggest question I feel is if he's really a TE at the next level or a big WR. While he's faster than Reed for sure, he also looks to be quite a bit smaller.

He's the very same size as Reed... only faster. I was disappointed because he looked small for a TE but if he can turn out like Reed then we're good.

What do you guys think we do in 2nd round? OL? I really wanted a blocking TE, but to be honest...starting to like this guy. I watched some vids on him and the info on him seems like he can be a threat. Odell, Marshall, Shepard, Engram. I like it.
