Gagne, a Yankee???

Recommended Posts

Take it for what it's worth, but this was posted at Nomaas.org.

News Radio 1080 KRLD in Dallas has just announced that a high level Texas Rangers source has said the deal sending Gagne to the Yankees "is a done deal." The deal will send 3-4 prospects from New York to Texas that will include Brett Gardner and Tyler Clippard.

If true, I'm happy. I dont like losing Clippard, but we are need of a better BP and with our rotation coming up, he wont ever pitch for us.

He wants to close, but to tell the truth, I'm pretty sure the Yankees aren't on his list of no trade teams.

Yeah, he's been adamant about wanting to remain the closer. Maybe the thought of winning a ring as a set up man outweighs the desire to close for a team with a lesser chance.

In that case he'd just waive his no trade clause to go to the Sox rather than go to that junk heap of pinstripes.

the people who post on nomaas are fucking morons who know absolutely nothing about baseball. Take anything they say with a grain of salt...actually, nomaas is just a horrible sight for opinion, they just have funny pictures

I kinda agree with you on that. They seem to think their shit dont stink over there. I haven't posted there in a long time, just like to browse through things.

Needless to say, I was surfing around and came across that posted in quotes. Looked legit, so I got suckered into believing it was real. Apparently it wasn't and now I hear Boston might land him. For what I have no idea, but that's the new rumor.

...and in light of my original post...

Jayson stark just reported on ESPNEWS that Yankees and Rangers have a deal in place for Gagne, only sticking point is money (the yanks have agreed to pay a portion of the bonus clause money in gagne's contract to appease him setting up rivera). Stark said the players agreed upon in the deal are Tyler Clippard, Jeff Marquez, and a C level prospect. Also said the yankees worked hard to get the deal done, knowing boston and mets are in the hunt. He said the deal could be announced by tomorrow morning.

Read in yesterday's paper that the Yanks, and Mets, are on the list of teams he'd go to without having to waive a no trade clause. Not sure about the Sawx.

If the Yanks get him, all of Boston will say, in unison, "Oooooooooooooh shit..." (like Jim carrey in The Cable Guy)

I've heard it mentioned, this is just one guys opinion and nothing more now, that the Sox might be willing to pay the entire bonus to get gagne to waive the no trade clause.

Good... :LMAO: That would just prove how stupid they are.

it's only an extra 3 mil or so. and if gagne stays healthy and still puts up sick numbers they can resign him, put him back in the closer role and finally put papelbon back in the rotation next season

This of course is all on Gagne's discretion IF he wants to go to Boston. I'm sure NY isn't affraid to tinker with numbers either, and they are on his list.

Think of it this way too. Boston has Paplebon closing and Okajima as there 8th inning guy. Gagne doesn't want to be a 7th inning guy. I'm not sure if Boston even needs a 7th inning guy. What would his purpose there be, besides blocking us from getting him?

What if Boston made Okajima their 7th inning guy? Or how about a two headed 8th inning guy? Isn't Okajima a lefty?

There doesn't need to be another purpose.

maybe im wrong but i doubt gagne cares what inning he pitches if his bonus gets paid

He's said a few times he really wants to stay a closer. If it pays the bills though, I'm sure he'll do whatever.

Damn... The Sox get him. I will now say, the Sox are going to be awfully hard to beat down the stretch and during the post season. That is one hell of a 3 headed monster they got now, on top of there starting pitching. :brooding:
