FUCK THEMSELVES

Also tells cable to pony up or shut up

What a crock! Everyone around here who has DTV has told me it blows, and anyone who spent last summer on AIM with me knows my feelings towards MLB.TV. So looks like I'm fucking screwed. :furious:

Everyone? I love DTV, and I believe JR feels the same. Cheaper, better picture, whats not to like? And the first person whos says customer service will get me rolling on the floor, becuase apparently they like being on hold listening to musac.

I love DTV, it is cheaper, the picture is much better and the HD is unreal and I don't have a service problem with the TV going off like it was with Adelphia/Comcast. I save around 20 bucks a month by switching and I have 4 boxes compared to one box with cable. I don't agree with the semi excuslive rights that some of these companies do. Especially the NFL package. I think it is unfair to some consumers. It does not affect me but same thing with satellite radio, but they are merging so it does not matter to me.

The NFL package is understandable though. DTV signed a contract with NFL in 1997(I believe), when DTV was just getting their feet wet. They rolled the dice and it payed off huge for them. The MLB thing is different because cable companies could have easily done the same thing long ago and you wouldn't have all this.

BTW VG, I was reading that link and says it's not exclusive, so cable can still provide it if they match terms.

Tis why I said what I did in the link. But lets be real, $700 Million? Even if Cable would match that offer, the price of the package would go sky high. With DTV only ponying up, they can keep the price where it's at.

My sister and parents both recently switched to DTV, they all hate it. Not as many channels and goes out in bad weather.

WHAT!? :LMAO: DTV has like 95% of every channel aired, and 100 HD channels by the end of this year. Look it up.

Bad wheather? Never, ever had that problem. I seriously think thats due to poor installation, which btw is contracted out by DTV.

I'm just telling you what they said, that they don't get alot of the channels they got with Cable (especially basic channels I think).

Oh, and I think we have slightly more severe weather here in the mountains than you do by the beach in regards to winter weather.

  • 2 weeks later...
i got my hopes up yesterday but apparently mlb rejected cable's bid. they still have until the 31st....

So if cable doesn't get the rights, when does it take effect? This year or next? I got my renewal email from MLB.TV, so looks like if cable is out, I'll have to suffer through that BS agian. :furious:

IMO VG, get DTV. Not only for the baseball package, NFL, but for the sports channels in general. I get to watch Yankees spring training, Yankees and Giants news, it's great. Plus the NFL channel.

I get the NFL channel, I'd love to see the Rangers spring games. I will probly end up getting DTV, my heart can't take another summer of mlb.tv. It's just not good for my health, but I am so pissed at MLB, they are forcing their hands for a quick buck, shitting on the fans. I'm gonna move to Texas one day when I'm rich, and buy season tix.

What MLB is doing with DirecTV is a complete and utter travesty when they've made so many positive steps in recent years to bring baseball back as a whole. Cable did indeed match Direct TV's offer but apparently MLB wasn't even considering accepting it anyway. Well, this whole thing is being brought in front of court with our old friend John Kerry at the forefront to make baseball more available. It's a shame what they're doing now though...pisses me the fuck off. Not everyone can afford a satellite much less put one in their homes. How are college students expected to watch their games? What about people whose landlords or apartments don't allow satellite? What about the tons of people still out there without internet who are robbed of any way to watch their hometown teams?

I swear to God I'm going to go ape shit. I tried logging into mlb.tv to make sure it's up and running, well it has the wrong password stored. so i hit the forgot password link and type my email and it says they are having an error. so i call and i've now been on hold for 15 minutes.

How the fuck can they still not manage to run this fucking thing effectivly? FUCK MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL! gREEDY COCK SUCKERS. i SHOULD BE WATCHING GAMES ON THE FUCKING TV, NOT FIGHTING THIS FUCKIN SHIT.

and if I still had cable I would not have SNY. It's nice to watch 5 games a week and once in a while on weekends. Now I don't get CW11 out of New York for the Sunday games. Back to the argument earlier. I get more channels that I ever had with Adelphia/Comcast. I also got the sports package and get a ton of FoxSports and Comcast Channels. I really would love to get SNY in HD but it looks like that wont happen. I never had a problem with my satellite. I live on the side of the mountain and never had a breakup in reception. Even with two feet of snow, came in crystal clear. I would seriously think about switching to DirectTV. If you ever do, make sure they do it and don't go to a store where they have their own contracts set up to install it. The installers did a great job and were very professional. BTW, what MLB.TV option did you get? The low end one or the high end one?

here ya go VG

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/press_releases/pre...sp&c_id=mlb

Major League Baseball announced today that iN DEMAND has entered into a seven-year agreement in principle to carry the MLB EXTRA INNINGS subscription package of out-of-market games and will distribute the MLB Channel, which is scheduled to launch in January 2009.

The MLB EXTRA INNINGS subscription package of out-of-market games is currently available to DIRECTV subscribers. iN DEMAND owners Comcast, Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable have agreed to carry the package, effective immediately. iN DEMAND also will offer to make the MLB Extra Innings subscription package available to other cable companies across the U.S. Like all distributors of MLB Extra Innings, these cable operators would also be required to carry the MLB Channel once it is launched.

The MLB Channel will be the first and only network dedicated to providing baseball programming to MLB fans 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a year-round basis. Major League Baseball's partnerships with DIRECTV and iN DEMAND mean the MLB Channel is expected to launch in 40 million homes.

"Our chief goal throughout the process was to ensure that fans would have access to as many baseball games and as much baseball coverage as possible," said MLB President and Chief Operating Officer Bob DuPuy. "With this agreement, the MLB Channel will launch with an unprecedented platform. We are pleased with the launch of the MLB Channel to so many homes coupled with our agreement to extend the distribution of MLB Extra Innings with iN DEMAND."

Well, I read your post after this and since EI will be on cable I'll stick to cable i think. I originolly got the base option but upgraded to premium this year, the problem I was having was it doesn't work with Firefox. i figured this out on my own, no thanks to the fucking service number. But now I need the credit card I used to sign up with last year. Bad thing is i used my mothers card since i don't carry any cards, so now i have to call her and get the info. Funny part is they want the card infio to insure my location, but they sure didn't need it for the automatic renewal or when I upgraded via email, fucking greedy assholes.
