The Houston Texans have made a bevy of moves in the backfield.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that the team released running back Andre Brown, per a source informed of the move.

Brown appeared headed for the chopping block after the former Giants back was left out of the rotation during Houston's embarrassing 32-0 preseason loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Houston also cut runners Dennis Johnson and Tim Cornett, per John McClain of The Houston Chronicle.

The moves clear a path for new talent. McClain reported Monday night that the team has signed journeyman Ronnie Brown and former Cardinals tailback William Powell.

With Jonathan Grimes and sixth-round rookie Alfred Blue next on the depth chart behind Arian Foster, a new pecking order could be established by the end of the third preseason game.

None of this shit is ever going to happen. CJ Spiller, Andre Brown - fuck it all. We have Jennings and Andre Williams who has looked stellar so far. I think we are set for the backfield.

Agreed.

Andre Brown would probably break his leg getting off the plane anyway.

Kendall Gaskins looked good too (I know against 2nd and 3rd stringers). Why not give him a shot as the 3rd back, presuming Hillis isn't back for awhile?

I'm sure he's getting that shot in practice these days and we'll see more of him in the next game or two. Makes sense to see what's in your own locker room before bringing in other team's castoffs.

Way too fragile, which is a huge bummer, because I could easily see that guy going for 1400 yards if he stayed healthy, and had a halfway decent offensive line.

Totally. The guy produced behind the Giants shit show line when he was healthy, he just wasn't healthy very often.

Y'know, I'm normally a 'kick the tires' kinda guy when it comes to other players becoming available, especially during the summer when roster limits are really a big deal. But we already gave this guy how many chances? If he can't stay on the field, and he can't beat out 3 guys we've never heard of for a backup spot...I fail to see the benefit in even giving him a look. Maybe if we were running the same offense as last year...then maybe. Or if we hadn't drafted a RB, then maybe. But the ship has sailed on one Andre Brown as far as I'm concerned.
