Ben McAdoo not on hot seat despite Giants' slow start

Consider Giants head coach Ben McAdoo off the hot seat for now.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning that the 0-4 head coach is not at risk of any brash mid-season firing after stumbling to a disappointing start.

"Ben McAdoo is not in trouble," Rapoport reported on NFL GameDay Morning. "The Giants believe he is still a future very successful coach. He actually went to the playoffs last year. This is expected to be just a blip on the radar for the Giants."

For fans of the Giants or those who have closely studied the organization, it would be a surprise if the team was planning to cut bait with McAdoo. On NFL Network, Rapoport mentioned "how ownership has traditionally run this franchise."

To expand on that thought: The Giants, even amid their worst seasons, prefer to execute a complete and total evaluation of the year before making any decisions. This was true after Tom Coughlin's 0-6 start to the 2013 season just as it will be true for McAdoo in 2017.

The evaluations are typically made between ownership, the general manager and the coaching staff. The coaching staff gets a chance to explain what went wrong and how to fix it, and then a decision is made.

The Giants had competition for McAdoo on the coaching market after he helped revive Eli Manning as Coughlin's offensive coordinator in 2015 and was viewed as an obvious candidate to succeed Coughlin from the moment he walked through the door. The decision to hire McAdoo was not made carelessly, so why would the decision to fire him be made that way?

Coughlin was given leeway because he was a SB winning HC who could control his team.

McAdoo is a few years removed from coaching Olineman in Green Bay and only six games prior from a horrible playoff loss.

I don't want to become the Browns rotating coaches every two years, but the experiment is about to run it's course.

What the fuck does Mara see in the guy?

LOL Oh he is not safe by a longshot. This season could be the last for Reese and I don't see ownership looking for another GM and hiring him on the caveat he keeps McAdoo. McAdoo hasn't done enough to keep his job so far, all he has done is show up on the sideline.

yeah, if the GM is on the hot seat, then the head coach is also on the hot seat.

Nothing bad ever happens after an off the record vote of confidence.

"Honest...no issues with Mac....he could be doing blow with that guy in Miami....and we are still going to give him a chance to stand this team back up his way".

...what do you guys think the over/under on wins is for this guy to keep his job?

I think he has to at or near .500 the rest of the way to survive.

If the Giants shit the bed (hint: they will), why the fuck would Mara want to entrust what will likely be the next franchise QB to Reese?

Not just that... we have one LB under contract and one interior O-lineman. Does ANYBODY want Reese and his wonderful eye for those two positions determining who plays there for the next four years?

Agreed.

This message board has dozens of threads over the past several seasons wondering aloud why these needs have been ignored and/or botched.

Flowers was a top 10 pick, right? Fucking A.

I have an open mind on McAdoo. He needs an offensive line, and the front office has every right to demand a play calling offensive coordinator.

Problem McAdoo has if he follows a very successful disciplined veteran coach. The roster needs to be replanted with his guys, and that will take time.

But yeah, Reese needs to go. If time was up for Coughlin, someone give me one good fucking reason why it's not up for Reese.

It's now.

Reese is gone. I think its obvious. McAdoo - not too sure. Giants don't have a history of firing coaches this quickly without a very legitimate reason like the team quitting on him/her (Booyeah! I aint no Newton! :) )
