Prince Sounds Impressed With Collins

Amukamara was specifically asked about Collins, the hard-hitting rookie safety from Alabama who the Giants hope will seize one of the starting safety spots right away. The Giants brass liked Collins' leadership qualities, which he displayed at the rookie minicamp last weekend, getting players lined up in their proper positions during drills.

"Collins seems very assertive, when he calls out the plays, just the way that he communicates with the other [defensive backs] on the field, it seems like he's taking charge out there," Amukamara said. "[He's a] very big guy, built like a truck. All that confidence really comes from being at Alabama and always playing with a pro-caliber mentality."

As for his own readiness for the 2015 season, it sounds as if Amukamara is excited about getting back on the field and testing his newly healed arm after tearing his biceps last season, cutting short a very good start to the 2014 season. Before the injury, Amukamara had 45 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 pass deflections in only 8 games.

"It feels good, I haven't really been limited from anything," Amukamara said. "I've been able to bench and do pull-ups, so I guess the real test will be when I [do] press coverage or when I wrap up or feel any type of contact."

Amukamara added that he will be ready to hit the field when the time comes, but that how much he will be able to do physically depends on the rules governing physical contact during OTAs.

Saw that. The only thing that concerns me about that is that Prince isn't as assertive given he's the veteran and Collins is the rookie. Sure, there's personality that goes into that...but it just sounded as if Prince relied on it from Rolle and now Collins and meanwhile, Prince hasn't exactly displayed it himself. It's nothing to get overly concerned about, but just seemed a little more telling to me about Prince than about Collins. But again, certainly not anything to write home about.

It's typically a safety's responsibility for that though. They usually "quarterback" the secondary.

That's why I see it as a positive for Collins and not a negative on Prince. and Prince wasn't out there practicing with him, just saying what he observed.

I like how Collins is built, that guy doesn't look like a defensive back. Hope that translates to durability.

I also hope it does NOT translate into throwing a shoulder into a RB or WR and knocking himself out of games.

Sudden impact: Projecting top 100 NFL rookies of 2015

Members of the 2015 NFL Draft class are settling in with their new franchises and are looking to make an impression on the league early in their first season. Here's a ranking of the top 100 rookies based on who will make the biggest impact in Year 1.

1. QB Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Bottom line -- nobody in this draft class will have a greater impact on their new team than the guy under center for Lovie Smith.

2. S Landon Collins, New York Giants: Collins is already assuming a leadership role for the Giants and fills a huge need for a team that will have to contain some high-powered offenses.

3. WR Amari Cooper, Oakland Raiders: The Alabama star will provide an instant boost to an offense that was dreadful last season and enters 2015 looking to pass the ball with second-year pro Derek Carr.

4. WR/RS Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks: Meet Russell Wilson's new best friend, a dynamo out of the slot who will create plenty of mismatches and boost the return game instantly.

5. RB Todd Gurley, St. Louis Rams: Gurley will be the workhorse back for a run-heavy Rams offense, barring any setbacks as he returns from an ACL tear.

6. QB Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans: The Week 1 starter for the Titans will have plenty of pressure to perform as the new face of the franchise in the most interesting offensive experiment in the NFL.

7. WR Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagles: Jeremy Maclin is gone and his immediate replacement could put up similar numbers in Chip Kelly's offense.

8. WR Kevin White, Chicago Bears: Defenses might rotate toward Alshon Jeffrey this year, so White will have opportunities to make big plays if Jay Cutler gets him the ball.

9. RB Tevin Coleman, Atlanta Falcons: The path is there for Coleman to be the primary tailback, and he will be a big part of the team's plans early in his career.

10. RB Melvin Gordon, San Diego Chargers: The team will still throw the ball around, but Gordon should be a focal point for the offense from Day 1.

Just breathe that in for a minute.

And there's more to it.

"Most importantly, Amukamara did not give up a single touchdown in pass coverage and quarterbacks had only a 58.2 rating when throwing in his direction."

Mook and DRC were really playing well together. I hope they can stay healthy.

Yeah out of all the free agents coming up next offseason I hope they prioritize Mook...yes even over Eli. He was on his way to becoming a top 5 CB
