Mr. P Posted May 13, 2015 Share Posted May 13, 2015 Amukamara was specifically asked about Collins, the hard-hitting rookie safety from Alabama who the Giants hope will seize one of the starting safety spots right away. The Giants brass liked Collins' leadership qualities, which he displayed at the rookie minicamp last weekend, getting players lined up in their proper positions during drills. "Collins seems very assertive, when he calls out the plays, just the way that he communicates with the other [defensive backs] on the field, it seems like he's taking charge out there," Amukamara said. "[He's a] very big guy, built like a truck. All that confidence really comes from being at Alabama and always playing with a pro-caliber mentality." As for his own readiness for the 2015 season, it sounds as if Amukamara is excited about getting back on the field and testing his newly healed arm after tearing his biceps last season, cutting short a very good start to the 2014 season. Before the injury, Amukamara had 45 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 pass deflections in only 8 games. "It feels good, I haven't really been limited from anything," Amukamara said. "I've been able to bench and do pull-ups, so I guess the real test will be when I [do] press coverage or when I wrap up or feel any type of contact." Sure, there's personality that goes into that...but it just sounded as if Prince relied on it from Rolle and now Collins and meanwhile, Prince hasn't exactly displayed it himself. It's nothing to get overly concerned about, but just seemed a little more telling to me about Prince than about Collins. But again, certainly not anything to write home about. It's typically a safety's responsibility for that though. They usually "quarterback" the secondary. That's why I see it as a positive for Collins and not a negative on Prince. and Prince wasn't out there practicing with him, just saying what he observed. And there's more to it. "Most importantly, Amukamara did not give up a single touchdown in pass coverage and quarterbacks had only a 58.2 rating when throwing in his direction." Yeah out of all the free agents coming up next offseason I hope they prioritize Mook...yes even over Eli.
