NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Giants left tackle Will Beatty suffered a torn pectoral injury lifting weights on Tuesday. The veteran will undergo surgery, per a source who has spoken to the player. The news is a huge blow to the Giants' offensive line. The injury is expected to knock Beatty out until late in the season. Big Blue drafted Ereck Flowers No. 9 overall to be the left tackle of the future, but that timeline might get accelerated. Flowers or Justin Pugh will be in line to protect Eli Manning's blindside. Flowers had been slotted to start on the right side, kicking Pugh to a guard spot. That plan now goes out the window. The Giants have been attempting to bolster their offensive line the past several years with little luck. Time for Jones to step up and win a starting guard spot Michael Bamiro or Sean Donnelly might get a shot at some serious playing time. Both played tackle in college - both 6'8", but Donnelly needs to add about 40 lbs even though he's got better feet than Bamiro. Should make for some interesting competition. In the end though, they probably hand the backup tackle job to Marshall Newhouse. I really like Bamiro and think he'll be a future NFL starting tackle. He's still a little green though. La'el Collins blew it by choosing the Cowboys who already had a great offensive line with positions that are set in stone. Regardless, it really sucks. We were finally going to have a solid line and get off to a fast start for a change. Even when Beatty gets back, he'll probably play at 60 - 70% and baby his injury. He's going to be taken the job away from Leary's easily, I have no idea what you're talking about. Smith, Martin, Federick, Collins, Free. Fuck they have an O-line made up of "4" first round pick talent. Romo better have the MVP trouphy on lock cause there's no way in hell he's gonna be sacked at all this year. Collins and Harris are career backups with issues - Collins is a penalty making machine, the book on him: "multiple penalties and inconsistent play"...also, he was with Jerome Simpson when they found a shitload of pot (6-8 lbs) and various drug paraphernalia. Can't see TC wanting anything to do with this guy. Harris fits more of a zone blocking type tackle who's been on 5 teams who all cut him after a year or two. Jake Long makes sense. His problem: two ACL tears in two years. He wants to play somewhere - probably for a lot of money, but he's a walking injury waiting to happen. If we could sign him on a 1-year contract (doubtful) for cheap...he'd be perfect to play LT until Beatty returns. Beatty will miss 6 or 7 games and Long would be good for about that many games before breaking down with his next injury. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If the team's trainers (LOL) and doc's figure he can hold up he's be a good backup if/when Flowers struggles, and the Oline start's it's annual injury flop fest.
