Yanks add Berkman and Kearns

So....the Yanks have traded for Lance Berkman and Austin Kearns. Apparantly, Berkman is going to make up for the loss of Nick Johnson. Kearns is a decent right handed bat with some pop, when he is healthy, but has been on and off the DL since getting to the majors.

Does this make the Yankees better? I don't think so. Berkman would've been a great pickup 4 or 5 years ago, but he's getting long in the tooth and on the decline. Picking up a stud reliever or a quality starter like Cliff Lee would have put them over the top. As it stands, they have their hands full staying ahead of the Rays.

I have no idea why these teams, are trading away prospects for washed up players they are not gonna help them, Phillies trading Happ for Oswalt what where they thinking?

I know nothing about Happ, but at least the Yanks traded away a couple of players that were never going to go beyond triple-A. They haven't announced yet who they are going to give for Kearns. Hopefully, another lifelong minor league role player.

they certainly weren't thinking he'd lose 8-1 to the nats in his 1st start! laugh.gif

The bad part about picking up Berkman is it takes Posada out of the DH role and puts him behind the plate too often.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. What the hell was Girardi thinking when he put in Posada to catch a basket case like AJ?

Posada has nothing to do with AJ being the inconsistant/headcase pitcher he has been his entire career. If anything blame Brian Cashman for giving him that ridiculous contract. AJ Burnett is what he is...and its not a very good pitcher. In his career year, 2008, his era+ was a very pedestrian 104. That said, again, blame Cashman for giving him that horrible contract...look on the bright side, we only have him for 3 more years

Hugh, I'm already blaming Cashman for giving Posada a 4 yr contract. :furious:

yeah, he should have given him a 2 year deal..with a player option for the thrid..Im sure he would have been happy being he had the player option for the thrid year. There was no need to give him that 4th year guaranteed. Horrible.Cashman does a lot of good things, but he also makes his fair share of horrible moves as well.

I cant wait to see the Derek Jeter albatross after this year. if he give him 4 years at 20-25 mil per year, I will never back Cashman on anything again.

You know he's gonna do that as well...it's sad. The Yanks should have had a replacement by now, but they don't. Also..I can't for the day that someone else not named Jeter mans the shortstop position...that guy is gonna get HELL.

In a perfect world the yankees will trade Joba and one of their catching prospects(Montero, Romin or Sanchez...(theyd probably want Montero..which I would be fine with being who we get in return) for Elvis Andurs and let jeter walk. But I doubt Texas would be interested in trading a kid who will be the best shortstop in baseball very soon(if he isnt already).

I'd take a couple shortstops ahead of Andrus at this moment in time and none of them are in any particular order:

Troy Tulowitzki

Hanley Ramirez

Jose Reyes

Not to say I don't believe he will be better, just in this moment in time..these guys are better and more established.

And thats a shitty trade too...Montero doesn't have a position..although can hit and Joba is a like a women on the mound sometimes. Yanks really fucked with his development.

I agree with that...Adrus is only 21 years old and will develop more power..but I dont think even Tulo has him with the glove right now..its close.
