What about John Maine

On the DL again. I think this has been 3 years in a row he's had arm/shoulder trouble. Should this guy be moved to the bullpen? I really like him, but he does us no good on the DL every year. I think I'm willing to let this year play out with him as a starter, and if he is injury free for the remainder of the season, then I would probably continue to let him start. But if this happens again next year, I think it's time to make a move. I would showcase him in big late-inning situations and try to get something for him, I think. Somebody let Minaya know about this plan. :P

The second he feels he can pitch again he should be thrown in the pen. His frame is too light to be a 180+ innings guy a year. He does have swing and miss stuff and does know what he's doing. I think he could be valuable in the pen. At least more so than 4 months of SP during the regular season.

This man cannot stay healthy throwing 100 pitches every 5th day, its a tax on his arm, what makes us think he could pitch 3-4 days and 80-90 pitches in that time over a 4 day span.

Guys injury prone, thats it.

HOUSTON -- Mets pitcher John Maine will get a second opinion on his injured right shoulder from Dr. James Andrews, raising the possibility that he could be done for the season. A source with knowledge of Maine's plans confirmed reports that he will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to see Andrews at some point in the next several days.

Maine, who has been on the DL with a pinched nerve in the shoulder since June 7, was slated to begin playing in rehab games at some point in the near future. But after throwing 65 pitches in a simulated game Tuesday in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Maine told Newsday on Thursday: "I just go on how I feel. It doesn't feel great."

The Mets' handling of players' injuries this season has been the subject of widespread criticism. Maine is the second player in the last month to seek a second opinion from a doctor outside the team's medical staff. Carlos Beltran visited a specialist in Vail, Colo., to get a second opinion on his injured knee.
