The Minnesota Vikings continue to lock down their defensive stars.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that the Vikings signed defensive tackle Linval Joseph to a four-year, $50 million extension. Joseph gets $31.5 million guaranteed.

Joseph was under contract though 2018 before the extension, which was confirmed by the team.

The 28-year-old is the latest Vikings defender to get paid, after the team gave Everson Griffen and Xavier Rhodes big-money extensions last month.

Joseph signed a five-year $31.5 million contract with Minnesota in 2014 after four years with the New York Giants.

At 6-foot-4, 329 pounds, the athletic Joseph is an immovable force in the middle of coach Mike Zimmer's defense. In 2016, Joseph compiled a career-high 77 tackles and four sacks. He's a pivotal spoke in the Minnesota interior as one of the best run-stuffing tackles in the NFL.

Earlier this week, Zimmer said Joseph is the "best [nose tackle] I've ever been around."

With Joseph's, Griffen's and Rhodes' deals done, general manager Rick Spielman will now turn his attention to inking linebacker Anthony Barr to an extension.

This offseason the Vikings have paid piles of cash to ensure Zimmer's stout defense won't deteriorate for years to come.

Guy is playing lights out, shame he played like backup while here.

Oh well cant keep em all.

His performance was fine, Reese claims there wasn't money for him. Linval Joseph is physically in better condition than "Snacks" Harrison. You wonder how Harrison went undrafted? Two knee surgeries.

I'd rather have Snacks on his contract than Joseph on his.

+1

People forget that Joseph had one pretty good season and three nondescript ones before he left. He's a nice player now and I'm glad things worked out for him but remember when Shaun Rogers went down Joseph didn't step up... we had the league's worst run defense from that point on. Snacks is arguably the best run defender in the NFL and I'd rather have him than Joseph.

Bad timing when he was a free agent with our cap situation at the time. But pdub is right there's no snacks if we kept Joseph

If Joseph developed into the player here that he is now, there isnt even a remote need for Snacks.

However maybe it was coaching or scheme but he played nothing like he is now in Minnesota.

Zimmer really knows how to coach up a defense dats fo sho.

Joesph is easily the better of the two, and there's no comparison really, but Linval didnt show it till after he left.

Snacks was still a good pick up but whatcha gonna do, like I said can't keep everyone on a team, some are going to get away.

Funny it's usually the Dline, Joseph, Cofield, even Osi finished off strong in Atlanta.

The guy was really good when he was here. plenty of people saw his value going out the door when he didn't resign.

That said I'd rather have the top run stuffer. It fits better with the rest of our d-line and linebackers. Considering how dominant our d is right now I'm not upset with how things turned out
