How do you rank this off-season so far?

hey

Recommended Posts

I'd give it a B-

The Defense gets an A but the Offense gets about a C

Our biggest needs imo after the season ended are as foloows:

1. Safety

2. CB

3. OLB

4. WR

5. DT

We have a great, underrated player in Will Demps at Safety, and we revamped our cornerbacks. But, we don't have a '#1' guy. Sam Madison is good but he his aging and slowing down. I pray that Will Pete can get better because has the skills to be one of the best Cb's in the league if healthy.

Everyone seemed so concerned with linebacker's, which i think is stupid. They played great the whole season until the ijuries piled up. And that same onslaught is very unlikely to happen two years in a row. But, Brandon Short is great depth. And, although, LA could turn into a stud here, he really was not needed.

I gave the offense a C because we have done nothing at all to upgrade it. We don't have a #2 qb, the second most important position and did not improve our 3rd WR status at all. Also, i don't like O'hara gettin an extension, if it does finalize. He is undersized and is average. The only thing i like about him is 0 fumbled snaps with Eli.

Hopefully in the Draft we can adress these needs most:

1. DT Trade up to 10-15 range. our 1st, 4th, and torbor/blackburn

2. OT, this is luke's last year, hopefully, he'd better pull it together and fast.

3. CB maybe zemaitis later?

4. OLB need to improve strong side

5. WR Need a speedster who can catch

6. Rb don't know if there could be anything late, let BJ develop

7. QB sign Jay Fiedler

This is our superbowl year and maybe the beginning of a dynasty with key players locked up :worshippy: :flex:

Overall, I'd give them a B.

However, I have to disagree on some points you've made.

Our biggest need this offseason was clearly the secondary, but not at safety. Every position, with the exception of Wilson was in need of improvement. Webster showed some flashes of being good, but the jury is still out on whether he will be a #1. Can't make that judgment after just one season. The secondary was overhauled in free agency with Sam Madison, who, despite slowing down a bit, will provide us with quality veteran starter. We also acquired RW McQuarters, who will provide much needed depth. Throw in Webster for his second year and a healthy Will Peterson (yeah, I know that's not definite) and we have a pretty good mix of veterans and youth at CB. Safety was upgraded significantly when we signed Demps to replace Williams.

Our second biggest need was at linebacker. The unit was killed by injuries last year. Granted, many of those players are coming back and will be healthy, but we clearly had no depth. Arrington is a huge upgrade over who we had starting on the weak side last year. And as of today, he's really the only weak side linebacker we have, so yeah, he's needed. Keep in mind all linebacker positions are not the same, despite some guys being able to play all 3 (or 4) spots. Pierce will be back in the middle. Emmons/Torbor will fight to win the strong side. Brandon Short provides a very reliable backup. And as deep as this draft is at the linebacker position, I really wouldn't be surprised at all if we drafted one in the first or second round for yet more depth. Regardless, we've improved at the position substantially.

Our third biggest need wasn't known until after free agency ended. We lost Clancy from our DT ranks. This loss is one of the reasons why I didn't go any higher than a B grade. Clancy showed that he could play in this league and had promise. I would have liked to see him re-sign and apparantly the front office did too, but wires got crossed and he took off. I think he could be replaced fairly easily, but not as easily as if we had simply got him locked down in a contract. I think DT will be addressed in the first two rounds of the draft to bolster the depth of the position. Another cheap free agent might not be out of the question either.

You can't really give the offense a C, because there's not much to upgrade. This offense was near the top of the league early on when everyone was playing well. The problem was that defenses then had a host of game tape to review and to prepare for. By the very nature of the game, offenses face greater challenges as the season wears on, simply because opponents know what to expect. Offenses need to change it up a bit or know how to overcome these challenges. This falls on the coaches as much as the players. So, besides a backup QB and a 3rd WR, we're set on offense. But you should also keep in mind that the 3rd WR in this offense is the 5th option on any given play. Toomer, Burress, Shockey, and Tiki will all get looks before any 3rd WR on any given play. And when was the last time that the Giants had more than 5 options on a given play on a regular basis? The line played well enough last season, and another season to gel will hopefully make them even better. However, I wouldn't be opposed to a draft pick used for Luke's replacement in a year or two.

Regarding trading up, I don't see it happening. Torbor has too much upside. Blackburn is a special teams guy only. Our 1st and 4th only total 768 points while the 15th overall is 1050 points. Even with Torbor or Blackburn, I'm not sure they would be worth the additional 282 pionts.

People always enjoy seeing mental midgets like the FAG 4 running around MBs trying to sound intelligent. That's what happened when Giants MB members heard you losers were here. Reading your crap is sorta like watching a car wreck. You can't help but look, even though you know it's wrong. Morbid fascination and all. You morons are the tumble weeds and debris of society.

No way in hell was Safety our biggest need this offseason. I can see if you want to make a case for cornerback since most correctly assumed that Will Allen would not be re-signed and Peterson likely wasn't returning from injury. But if it wasn't corner it was outside linebacker. Our LB unit last year basically consisted of one guy doing the work of three. We saw how bad things got when he went out. LB HAD to be addressed. By saying it wasn't a priority you're basically saying that we would've been fine with Green, Pierce and Emmons as starters this year. If you believe that then I'm really not sure what Giants team you were watching last year.

I can't believe there are people who still think upgrading our third receiver slot is a major part of our success this upcoming season. We have not ONE, not TWO, not THREE but FOUR Receiving options we look to before we even think about throwing to our #3 wideout. Our offense did just fine last season without a playmaker at the #3 wideout spot. I don't see how improving that postion makes a significant difference to our productivity.

Will Demps was a nice addition but he's got a ways to go before anybody can call him "great".

I'll at least agree that we need to bolster DT but at the end of the season this wasn't a major need as we still had Clancy on the team and the FO was actively trying to re-sign him.

Left Tackle depth was and still is a need.

Sportswrath is clearly the winner this offseason securing the services of the FAB 4 and saving this site from oblivion - the Giants seemed to have a theme this offseason - sign all the aging, injury prone players available.

I almost swallowed my gum after I read this flaming turd's comment.

After demonstrating a startling lack of football accumen, the Faux Four has the audacity to comment on the rest of the fan base as if to expose something.

Mind boggling is the way I'd describe the Faux Four's insistence on proving it's lack of familiarity with football.

Please stop posting, it's beyong embarrassing.

It is just embarrassing for them. What's worse, the Faux Four is like a fat lady wearing a bikin because she's lost 3 lbs and doesnt' know she's a pig.

I feel for the Faux Four, they're insistence on trying to be provacative or clever is all in vain and though those posts do take up a bit of this Mb's attention, everyone's just waiting for a kiddie porn sting to grab Lockhart up.

It was reltively mild and produced less snow then normal. We had one big snow storm followed by warm temperatures that melted away the evidence quickly. The frigid Greenland weather system which produces cold and snowy winters never was able to anchor into the atmosphere keeping us in a above normal, tepid air mass.

Oh by the way. The New York Giant Football team has no NFL calibre defensive tackles as of April 25,2006.

Why the hell not safety? Considering we only had to on the roster and one who had ever played significantly. Bad corners are almost always the product of a non-rush and poor help by the safety.

I was happy with the way our CB's played last year. Considering, With our best cb on IR Webster and Deloatch learning to play, and allen played well the whole season.

I don't think 3rd WR is TOTALLY NECESSARY to the and will determine whether our offense exceeds. But that third speedster opens everything up in the short yard game because a D has to respect that speed.

Hard to fault the team for addressing it's defense instead of upgrading a couple back-ups on offense. In fact, keeping their starting unit completely in tact will pay dividends.

Would you rather have Sam Madison or Jay Fiedler?
