Giants | More about Arrington

Tue, 14 Mar 2006 05:18:34 -0800

Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports there are some interesting theories floating around regarding free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) and the New York Giants. One involves a conflict of sorts between the front office, which is leaning toward trying to sign Arrington, and the coaching staff, which is not sure he will fit in with the defensive scheme. Arrington, who has spent all six of his NFL seasons with the Redskins, is a superb athlete, but tends to freelance on the field and that may have turned off the coaching staff. Arrington also may be at his best playing in a 3-4 defensive scheme, but the Giants are a 4-3 team that relies on the pass-rushing skills of DEs Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora. "It doesn't fit," said someone with knowledge of the situation. Another factor is Arrington is seeking a big contract, which would limit how active the Giants can be in free agency.

Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports the agent for free agent DT Brentson Buckner (Panthers) said the New York Giants are one of three teams he has spoken to the most about interest in his client.

Demps wouldn't be bad but I'm fine with our S core. All we need is a FS to compete with James Butler for the starting job (Jason Allen?). Good depth with Brimmer, Shivers and Harris.

4 M? Shit, release Fred Robbins and Will Peterson. RESTRUCTURE PETITGOUT

Tim Carter? Only if he's cleared to play

I hope that NY does make an offer

Buckner is pretty old, a short term solution.

Buckner - no more than a 2 year deal, if that. Rather see Pickett or guy from Seattle whose name I'm drawing a blank on.

Arrington - just make the offer, sign the deal and call it a day already.

Demps - get your ass in here already and sign your shit.

Tim Carter - we can't sign Jabar Gaffney instead for a similar contract?

4 million probably doesn't include the rookie pool, so there probably shouldn't be too much worry about signing draft picks.

If we can bring in Demps and Buckner/Sam Adams I would be very happy if that is all we did in free agency. I am not comfortable at all with Lavar, and like it said, he freelances and likely won't fit our scheme, no matter how amazing an athlete he is.

We can find a quality LB in the first round...no reason to throw all our remaining cap money at a malcontent, unmotivated linebacker....

We need to get Rocky Bernard now !!!!!!!!! Right all this wrong doing. Throw whatever money we have left at him.

ehh only 4 mil....

No way in hell can we sign a DT(a good one at lest like Rocky or Buckner) Demps and Arrington

i am almost leaning to sign Buckner/Rocky (doubt we can sign Rocky) and Draft D'Qwell Jackson and second a saftey

not a big fan of rookie DT's

thats why im all for grabbing Buckner on a two year contract, and drafting a DT high (2nd or 3rd) to replace him down the road....

4 million is easily maneuverable around. You just sign them to longer contracts (which would be ideal for someone like Rocky Bernard or Will Demps)...

Again, cutting Peterson and Robbins doesn't save us any money. And restructuring Petitgout only creates cap problems in the future...

Yes, he's still available

Tanks > Demps

both are pretty promising and better than what we have :P

i'm keeping my fingers crossed for either.

It must be said that Will Demps did have the advantage of playing next to Ed Reed in a pretty damn good secondary...

I don't know if EA has anything up his sleeve. But these signings seems like were at the end of the season and most of our corners are on the DL and were are just getting bodies.

Tell me about it, but Madison is going to kick ass next year. How in the world do we only have $4M to spend. No wonder we aren't going crazy in free agency. Screw Lavar, I'd rather draft a rookie or sign greison if he is going to put us in a whole for years to come. And the way this article sounds, I think TC will put LV in his doghouse from the moment he signs, if the coach doesn't want him then don't sign him.
