Trachsel faces new-look Fish in opener

Florida (1-2) at New York Mets (2-1), 7:10 p.m. ET

Here come the Marlins, hardly the team the Mets knew and defeated 10 times in 18 games last summer. None of that means much now.

"They're not the same team, we know that," David Wright said Thursday. "We play them 19 times. You want to be ready for them. They have a couple of former Mets [Mike Jacobs and Yusmeiro Petit]. You know they'd like to come in here and win a couple. They'll be ready for us. "We have to guard against that."

Steve Trachsel is making his 2006 debut in the series opener.

Trachsel didn't face the Marlins last year, and his 7-12 career record against then has little bearing now with all of Florida's personnel changes.

Pitching matchup

NYM: RHP Steve Trachsel (1-4, 4.14 ERA in 2005)

Trachsel has pitched twice in his career on April 7, and he allowed 18 runs in eight innings over those two appearances.

FLA: LHP Jason Vargas (5-5, 4.03 ERA in 2005)

Vargas is the first left-handed starter the Mets will face this season. New York's 2005 record against lefties was 18-21.

Player to watch

Carlos Delgado has Shea Stadium measured. His quick swing can put baseballs in places they seldom have reached since the days of Darryl Strawberry's extraordinary pull power.

Delgado has hit a home run in each of the last two games. He seems to be sizzling already.

"I love to watch him swing," general manager Omar Minaya said. "You want to see a cleanup hitter, watch him."

Met fans love Beltran again? Go figure. He did get me 5 ribbies in 2 days so far in fantasy :clap:

With Kaz Matsui nowhere to be found and fans realizing how stupid it is to boo Beltran, there is no one to boo.
