The Game...

 

The Mets (5-2) take on the Phillies (1-6) in the middle game of a three-game set at Shea Stadium this evening, starting at 7:10 pm EDT.

The Pitchers...

 

LHP Oliver Perez (1-0, 1.29 ERA) takes the hill at Shea for the first time since Game 7 of the NLCS. In his first start of the season vs. the Braves, Perez gave up one run on five hits over 7 IP while striking out six and walking none. He is 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA in five career starts vs. the Phillies. In his last start vs. the Phillies on August 26th of last season, Perez allowed five runs, two hits and five walks while striking out seven in five innings as part of a no-decision.

 

RHP Adam Eaton (0-1, 13.50 ERA) pitches for the Phillies. In his first start of the season vs. the Braves, Eaton allowed eight runs, seven earned, on seven hits over 4.2 IP along with four walks and one HR allowed. The Phillies signed Eaton to a three-year, $24.5 million contract during the off-season. Eaton is 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA vs. the Mets in his career, although he has not faced the club since 2004.

 

The Notes...

 

LF Moises Alou is 12-for-29 (.414) with 2 HR and 7 RBI vs. Eaton lifetime.

 

1B Ryan Howard has homered in his last five games against the Mets including four straight at Shea. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only other player to homer in five straight games vs. the Mets is Hank Aaron (1962-1963).

 

LF Pat Burrell has 3 HR in 12 career at-bats vs. Perez.

Mets starting pitchers have only allowed 8 ER through the first seven games (a 1.67 ERA). This includes five home runs.

 

The Mets have already had a 5-run inning (Apr. 4th at St. Louis), a 6-run inning (Apr. 6th at Atlanta) and a 7-run inning (Monday vs. the Phillies).
