Every Giants fan, myself included, was blinded by success at the time and completely ignored the fact that we'd been in the playoffs the 2 years prior and were on the rise anyway. I've accepted that Jerry Reese is a man who gets things right more often than wrong. He has made some mistakes and unfortunately those mistakes are magnified by the last couple of seasons. The mistakes do not take away from his successes and I think he has done quite a bit the last few years trying to fix mistakes and I think he is doing the right thing. The rankings were based on: how many games the player actually played, Pro Bowl appearances, first team All-Pro selections, and awards like MVP and Rookie of the Year. We also factored in how much the team has won during the five years, since players tend to play quicker for losing teams. I don't see the Pro bowl as anything more than a popularity contest. People vote and the player goes to Hawaii. It is more about the popular guy going than the best guy and it helps if your team is popular as well. MVP and rookie of the year? Come on now. Player injuries is going to hurt the number of games a player actually plays. How many games the team has won in the last five years? The article failed to incorporate the all-important "back flip" statistic into the grading criteria. Coughlin was fired because of injuries...again. How he didn't drop Palemeiri is the real head scratcher. The Giants were top of the league for like 3 years running for lost time due to injuries. Same thing happened in Jacksonville with the same trainer, and the one year Palmieri was in New Orleans that team was the most injured as well. Seems like a no-brainer but hey, loyalty. He also needs to change his arrogant attitude, because that's probably the biggest factor of why I can't stand him. Mess up and own up to it, I respect you. Yeah super bowl wins gets you passes for fucking up, that is how it works in the NFL. I will say that injuries have been a huge issue with the Giants, and blame for that extends to the GM, training/conditioning staff, and the coaching staff, along with the players themselves. But the amount of misses is staggering, and I think he's been absolutely behind the curve with respect to understanding evolving offenses and defensive countermoves. How many tight ends need to feast on this defense before Reese realizes his formula is flawed? It's an absolute given that Jason Witten will abuse the Giants 2x per season. On top of that, every average NFL tight end puts up career numbers against the Giants. That 2015 Defense was a Reese Production - and it was among the worst defenses I've ever seen, and I've been watching this team for over three decades now. About the only brightside I see is that eventually, Reese will get fired, and hopefully before they need to select a successor to Eli Manning.
