Darren Sharper sentenced to 18 years in prison

Darren Sharper has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after drugging and raping as many as 16 women, the Associated Press reported on Thursday morning.

The former NFL star reportedly pled guilty or no-contest to all charges stemming from allegations made in federal court in New Orleans, as well as state courts in Louisiana, Arizona, California and Nevada (the four states in which he drugged and raped the women). Sharper was sentenced by Judge Jane Triche Milazzo, who rejected the prosecutors' suggestion of a nine-year prison sentence back in June.

He has already been in jail since February of 2014, when accusations arose and led to his arrest in Los Angeles.

Sharper, 40, played 14 NFL seasons as a safety with the Green Bay Packers (1997-2004), Minnesota Vikings (2005-2008) and New Orleans Saints (2009-2010). He made five career Pro Bowls and was named first-team All-Pro twice.
