Micahel Young Hangs em Up

Sad day, was hoping the Rangers would bring him back for a bench role. One of the best Rangers there ever was and the way things ended doesn't seem fitting. The Rangers transformed into his image and he gave them legitimacy. I don't know if he'll be elected into the hall of fame, but after 14 seasons he finished with a .300 career batting average, 2300+ hits, 5 straight years with 200+ hits and another season of 200 tacked on, he is a strong candidate. Hell if Ryne Sandberg is on the HOF, Mike should be there too.

Best Rangers trade ever. Michael Young for Esteban Loiza.

I like Young a lot...he was a great team guy too....clutch as the day is long....unfortunately...... bouncing around from position to position is going to hurt him on HOF consideration....he has great offensive numbers for a 2b...but he spent more time at SS, 3b and later....was DH and 1b....and his numbers aren't in the same league for power and RBI for a corner infielders...and DH'ing

And while his numbers are respectable for a SS....he had the unfortunate timing of being an SS at the same time as Jeter which pretty much cockblocked him on gold gloves his entire time there....and you absolutely need to crank out a handful of those as a middle infielder if you are looking to get in the HOF.

Sandburg is in because we was strictly a second baseman...you put him up against other 2bs from his era..........10 all star games.....7 silver sluggers...9 Golden gloves.....with his power numbers and RBIs..... (which are almost identical to Young's except Young has a higher life time Average)......and he is pretty much a slam dunk.....on a third ballot for the HOF.

The guy I think he most closely is comparable too is Paul Molitor. ..who bounced around the infileld and then eventually became a DH...and 1bers in his 30's.....problem there is....Molitor had much higher hit, RBI, HR and Stolen base totals.

Fucking Rangers should have left him at 2b or SS......the balls on them to move him to 3b AFTER he scored his only Gold Glove at SS...is amazing.

He was a blast to watch.....hope he gets in HOF...but its gong to be tough.

I think he should have stayed at 2b and the Rangers should have had the balls to move Soriano to the outfield. Mike wasn't great defender, he won that gold glove and he was adequate, but the move to third was the right thing to do with Elvis coming up.

I always thought he was capable of more power, but it never materialized. He was a joy to watch though.
