So now what?

I made something to eat after I ducked out of the gameday thread so I did get to see Saquon's TD... but I wasn't foolish enough to think that meant that we were mounting a comeback. I know these Giants too well. :TU:

Anyways, where do you think we all go from here? The way I see it we have a number of problems (stating the obvious, I know).

1. We have a lot of money tied up in players that are not playing up to their contracts. Eli, OBJ, Vernon, Solder, I'd maybe put Ogletree in there as well. I'm not saying those guys are bad players per se, but they're not playing up to what they're being paid. My plan would be:

Eli retires. If I'm not mistaken, there's 24 grand.

Vernon, Solder, Ogletree take pay cuts. If they refuse, I'm not sure there's a good way out of their contracts so you might just have to eat them unfortunately.

OBJ - I have no idea. I didn't watch the second half of the game but this is the second game this season where he had to "take an IV" before the half, and the Lil Wayne stuff is flat-out ridiculous. If this crap doesn't stop I'd honestly look into a trade... he's not helping the team win at this point, and he's not a leader.

2. Free Agency/Draft - Make a QB succession plan (this should have been started three years ago). Right now, my plan would be:

Sign Teddy Bridgewater. If he's too expensive/unavailable, get a Sam Bradford type in here to hold the fort for the new kid. Draft the best QB you can find in April.

Get another tackle or guard in free agency, but a good one. Move Omameh to a backup role and if you can somehow get a Taylor Lewan type, move Solder to RT. In round 2 draft the best Guard or Center you can. Re-sign Collins but only at the price he's actually worth.

3. Coaching/Front Office - I'm not sold on Shurmur, but he's shown more from a personality standpoint then I thought he had. Gettleman should hopefully stick around a few more years. I think you keep those two guys in place for another two years and re-evaluate then.

That's what I've got. What do you guys think?

Im in agreement with most of what you stated... however ODB is a super talented player whose talent is suffering because of the subpar play of the QB and the Oline....

The QB Id go after is Kapernick.

Shurmer and his team need more time before we can grade them.

I agree, but Saquon and Hernandez are in the same boat and they're not doing interviews with rappers and losing their shit on the sidelines. ODB played a good game but I don't think he's grown up at all, and honestly, I'm getting tired of his schtick.

Hes mouthing to Eli to THROW THE BALL, after Mannings 99th check down so Im thinking Shurmur is finally starting to get it. Lets hope they at least work in Lauletta.

Ill add that Jenkins needs to take a paycut, too. Or be flat out released. And at this point, Gettleman needs to get his own guys in here so Id jettison Landon Collins, too. Or move him to linebacker.

Different personalities... no one said ODB was the sharpest tool nor does have the demeanor to be a leader... that's not his role... ODB is easily your best player on that team outside of Saquon... I know of people who were too emotional... that's just part of being young and feel like the environment you're in isn't helping...

Time to turn the page on Eli, I was his biggest support going into this year and honestly it's tough to say but he's done. Seeing this qb who once could make 4th quarter comebacks a thing of ease is now struggling to hit check down players.

it's heartbreaking but it needs to be done.

I don't feel like he needs to be benched soon but they need to see who they can get this off season to take the reigns from Eli.

it's going to an off season of turn over again.

Jenkins, Vernon, Snacks, Collins, all these guys are probably gone or casualties of the cap.

they need to invest in the oline, secondary and pass rushers. Barkley and OBJ are to players who the Giants will never have the same talent level again in a long time, they ca t waste the opportunity they have with the both of them.

I feel they take a QB with the first pick or that make a push/trade for someone else for the time being.

Shurmur deserves a chance.to get a QB with an arm to see what he can do.

Any chance the Giants can put together a package for Keenum he did well under Shurmur.

No to Bridgewater the guy isn't a starting QB Imo, he's a one or two game relief at most.

going to be another fun off season expect a lot of these key giants guys from previous regimens to be let go, Shurmur and Getty are still molding this team, which is something we all knew was gonna happen these next few years.

That's a great point, I forgot about him. He is a good corner but he also shows up for at least one boneheaded play per game.

He seems to think that he can drive through receivers as he throw his hands up as if trying to go for the ball and not get called on PI. That seems to be his only coverage skill right now. I have no doubt that teams have informed the league to watch for it because he was called on it once (almost twice).

Signing Kap is unrealistic. Benching Manning for Kap would be a nightmare PR disaster. Giants fans had a complete meltdown shit fit when Manning was benched for Smith (even though the plan was always to work Webb in). Even if its the right move, the Giants wont do it.

That's because Smith sucks and Eli didn't suck then like he sucks now... Kap is a stop gap while we groom our next starter whoever he is...

If they benched Eli for Webb it would of been fine.

Even if Webb played like shit he would of been better accepted.

Smith isn't the answer at QB so why even start the guy? MacAttack and Mara didn't know what they were doing and it was obvious, they both fucked the pooch on that decision.

Cut Eli, Jenkins, Stewart, and Michael Thomas to shave 29.1 mil off the payroll. This will leave us with almost 48 mil in space. We can save another 11 mil if we cut Vernon but Id personally keep him. We are stuck with solder and omameh, their dead money exceeds their cap hits. Cutting Apple saves us nothing but fuck it, cut him. The locker room culture needs to change.

Resign Wynn and halapio. Collins is a shitload cheaper right now than he was a year ago and safeties in general are super underpaid. He might be worth bringing back cheap and seeing if he can regain form from earlier in his career. Kaepernick sucks. Franchise stupar and make sure he gets Beckham money.

Seems they are in danger of losing the team like last year. Beckham, Apple , lackluster pursuit, many mistakes, lack of concentration.

Be a PR nightmare either way,

well yeah- he's going to have to run for his life but he likes that. and he'll play for food money. I don't know if the Maras have the courage. Tisch would.

It seems you and I are the only ones here who think this would be a good move...

Here's the latest article stating the obvious about Eli:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/24962436/end-eli-manning-new-york-giants-team-draft-new-quarterback

Eli is 43-58 in the regular season and 0-1 in the playoffs since winning his second Super Bowl title with Coughlin in the 2011 season, and despite the talent deficiencies around him over the years, especially on the offensive line, he has become a conspicuous part of a problem that has no easy solution.
