NeMesiS
Our tackles are magically going to figure out how to block in the next few weeks? V ... to be honest. I don't think our tackles were awful on Monday. Maybe I'm over exaggerating things. But I thought our guards played like shit. No push at all on the run game. I think it's very easy to just be negative and say we couldn't do this or that... sure we could have Maybe?? ok not really.. but let's assume we could have landed the guy from Cleveland... at what cost? At what point do we say oh shit we just mortgaged our next 3 drafts for one player???? And at what point do you have too many super stars on the team who expect big pay days that we can not afford? As a GM, Reese has to weigh all of these factors and I feel he did what he could... besides it's not like this is a one man operation... the FO operates as a team with counsel from the owners... you think Reese can just sign a player to a huge contract without the Maras and the Tiches approval? Gman329
I can't kill JR for not trying to build the OL. We have two first rounders and a two on that line. You want to say he whiffed on those picks - or at least Flowers - OK, that may be a fair argument......though I'm gonna give it a little longer before making that declaration. But the argument that he's fiddled while the OL burned is not a fair one. As for free agents this year, they were average to below average and they grossly, ridiculously overpaid. To give up two 23 year old OTs, who you've invested draft choices and two years of development time in, and who have worked hard all off-season, to sign mediocre, overpriced journeymen would not have been prudent. fringe
Our tackles are magically going to figure out how to block in the next few weeks? Our coahes need to find ways to make up for the weakness ( if indeed there is weakness) at whatever position. In today's NFL, there's going to be some positions not as strong as others. With a veteran QB and premier receiving corp, you find ways to keep the defense off balance and compensate for the weaker links.

Speaking of making up for weaknesses, anybody else give Ellison a good look this week? That dude is a poor man's Jason Witten. He will do a lot to make up for poor tackle play. If its even that poor. Why does Richburg get a pass? I'm not so sure he isn't the weak link on that line, him or Hart.

Could be, its not a good sign that we can throw a dart at the right side of the line and hit a potential weak link. Its hard to separate out the guard from the center and tackle. There were a couple times last year that I was all over Jerry, only to find out that he was actually getting burned by someone else's mistake. No doubt JR has tried (in previous years) to put together an OL. It just hasn't panned out. Flowers, unless he pulls it together this season, looks to be a bust. Jerry is not a starting caliber RG, unless he's surrounded by four above average lineman. Richburg is underwhelming, and Hart is nothing more than a backup himself. The only competent lineman we have in the starting lineup is Pugh, who's a B+ level guard. We have a C- level line, on average: LT Flowers - D LG Pugh - B+ Richburg - C Jerry - C- Hart - D
CrazedDogs
not that we have much to go off, but its not like Flowers has been getting beat when the hitting is live. just going off other commentators who do film review, he had a pretty fair game on Monday. I get my eye on him on an obvious running play, he dove at the defender's ankles too early and face planted and the defender easily tackled our runner... A 2014 seventh-round pick, Leno has started 29-of-32 games the past two seasons. He was Pro Football Focus' No. 53 tackle out of 76 qualifiers last season after checking in at 49th-of-76 the previous year. The Bears see upside in the soon-to-be 26-year-old and are returning all five starters up front. At $9.5 million per year, Leno is the league's 14th-highest-paid left tackle.
