Giants RB Core

A surprising lack of speed and possible dagger for this season.

Perkins 40 time 4.53

Gallman 40 time 4.60

Vereen 40 time 4.50

I'd be shocked if Vereen was still that fast. So yeah we might have faster LB's than RB's this year...

Giants broke off all of three runs last season for over 20 yards with the current RB group who were here last year. Gallman is not a faster RB and I do hope harder to bring down than Perkins. I like Perkins and really hope he got faster like Eli Apple this offseason.

The 40 is an over emphasized stat to look at for RBs. RBs don't have the time or space to gear up to full speed. It's more about burst and agility, along with vision and instincts for RBs. Also generally size to carry through tackes and absorb contact.

Look at the top five rushers; Elliot, Murray, Bell, Howard, Ajayi, for instance.

To me the best back in football atm is David Johnson, the kid has everything you would want in a RB.

He's fast, can block, probably the best reciving back in the NFL, can break tackles and get out of traffic.

He only had a 4.5 40 time.

I saw an article from last year about Paul Perkins... his measurables were literally average for every category. However, he was arguably the most effective runner.

I agree with Echo... vision is definitely the most important stat, and not one that's easily measured. Look at Andre Williams measurables. Dude has everything you'd want besides vision and he's terrible.

Dude.

???? Who am I talking to, a 9th grade kid who wears his pants down below his ass, is failing class, and who thinks it's cool to respond to an adult with "dude".

If you disagree, posit a thought out response. If you have some inside information that proves that corps is not good, or isn't going to be good, then speak up like a man.

I don't like to waste time with children who think calling a man "dude" is some kind of appropriate response.

And his initial burst sucks. He would've been a good rb in the 80s and 90s when teams used fullbacks more. Perkins is smooth and decisive and that all goes back to vision like you said. I think all of our rbs compliment each other well-at least on paper

For his time in college?

That, plus grit/toughness...For instance, Ahmad Bradshaw. Wasn't the biggest back out there, but ran tough and ran big. Frank Gore also comes to mind. Fortunately, I recall reading something on Wayne Gallman calling him tough and a banger.

Fairly certain this was cut/pasted from the original...correct me if I'm wrong. If so, well done sir!

If Perkins ends up as even half of what Tiki was, that's a big win for us.

Not so sure about that. wasn't he like 60% of our offense back then? teams figured it out and that was the end of that.

What I mean is, if Perkins ends his Giants career with 8,000 all purpose yards (roughly half of Barbers rushing and receiving), I will gladly take those results.

Let us just see if he can manage 1000 yards rushing this season. Haven't had one of those in a long time. ^_^

Yes, getting tired of all the rotation of the running game because it's not helping all that much. while I love it, the Giants just don't seem right as a pass happy offense.

Will Perkins be the answer at RB is what this season will hang on. I no longer care how they play as long as they win.

I agree that a lot hinges on Perkins. If he's a legit starting RB, a 1,000 yard guy (which is not the lofty benchmark it used to be but still significant), our O will be VERY hard to defend. Of course, as has been discussed ad nauseam, no RB can be effective if poorly blocked - or unblocked - defenders hit him the second he gets the ball, as happened all too often last year.
