First Round, 19th Pick

Every year we have a lot of threads about potential draft picks. So maybe we can keep this one going for awhile even though it's very early. Youtube videos appreciated. If we can, let's just discuss our first rounder.

I'd be happy with a few players, and of course some of these may not hold value at the 19th pick even if they are available. We'll have to wait and see. Here's some candidates I'm extremely interested in (I wanted to pick a linebacker but at this point I don't think there's a solid can't miss first rounder at linebacker in this draft class):

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois

Height: 6-1. Weight: 230

He has declared for the draft. Ran for 1,697 yards and 17 TD's, with 17 receptions for 196 yards, 3 TD's. Gained 6.0 ypc, had a 4 game stretch where he scored 12 TD's, including a 5 TD game against Michigan, running 24 times for 120, 3 TDs, 2 rec, 52 yards, 2 TDs. Ran 33 times for 330 yards against Northwestern. Dominated his bowl game running 29 times for 184 yards vs. Baylor. Guy is a workhorse with size and speed.

AJ Green, WR, Georgia

Height: 6-4, Weight: 212

This guy has also declared. I know we don't need a receiver, but this guy might be too good to pass up. This guy missed 4 games to suspension and I haven't bothered to look up why yet, but he is big and tall and had some great performances against the stiffest competition in NCAA. How about a 9 catch, 164 yard game with 2 TD's vs the national champion Auburn Tigers? He played in 9 games, had just under 900 yards receiving with 9 TD's.

Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame

Height: 6-6, Weight: 260

The injury bug has hit him but he has the size and receiving skills that translate to being an elite TE in the NFL. Bit of a gamble.

Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

Height: 5-10", Weight: 215

I think this guy could be a baller but didn't have quite the junior season I would've liked to have seen. Beware of the Heisman jinx here. He can be a factor in the receiving game as well.

You guys have anybody you like?

Here's some highlights of AJ Green (2009 highlights, sorry), I think his ball skills are ridiculous:

I'll throw a fit if we draft an RB or WR in the 1st round. You can get an RB in the 3rd, let bradshaw go and promot ware to 2nd. get a damn LB, either trade up for one or get one at 19th, but we need an LB.

I thought the same thing but I don't think there's going to be value at 19 for a LB. No need to trade down, if they are second round values, just get one there. But I'm thinking more and more just get best player available. Anyway, something struck me in our games against Dallas and Philly.... in both games, the best player on the field was Dez Bryant and DeSean Jackson. At times they looked like unstoppable forces. If we can get a player in that mold (a la Green) it would equalize things to a degree. I realize we have good receivers, but say we get one more guy like Green who is unstoppable, then you have him and Nicks on the outside with Smith in the slot. That would be very difficult to defend. I acknowledge that I doubt that this will happen.

Also, there are good RB's throughout the draft, but I think this team needs a SPECIAL player like I said to take this team over the hump so we can finally beat Philly.

it would be great to be able to score over 31 points regularly, but what if your opponent is able to regularly score 34 points on you? The lack of line backer is killing us.

We agree on this. I will tell you, SCOUTS, INC's Top 32 via ESPN (LINK) has Von Miller, Akeem Ayers, and Justin Houston in their top 26 players. All are OLBers. They have Akeem Ayers as #18.

Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA

Height: 6'4", Weight: 255

I'm pessimistic about him. Might be a good SAM for us, or could be a bust.

Von Miller, OLB/DE, Texas A&M

I'm wondering if this is more of a 3-4 pass rusher type OLB. Going to try and find a youtube vid of this guy.

there's no RB worth taking this year, next years class is loaded. Jacobs looked like a beast again running behind a good oline(until they brought back O'Hara) I would like a DT in round one, we need a rotational guy behind Canty and Coefield(assuming he's resigned) and maybe someone to go into the starting rotation to replace Canty. Drake Nevis DT out of LSU is the perfect fit, he had 6 sacks, 2 FF, and 13 TFL last year. Torrey Smith in round 2 is a must he can return punts and kicks and could give us a over the top option at WR.

I like Ayers, he might be gone by time we pick. He was the only bright spot on UCLA's D last year. His pass rush skills are a bit overrated, I think that has alot to do with offenses game planning around him has the only threat for UCLA. UCLA also dropped him down to play DE in their 4-3 looks. He could be the same thing has Mathias Kiwanuka though. Miller some say hes a better fit is at a 3-4 but he could play SAM in the 4-3, he is not a first round prospect though, both of them could be works in progress.

Miller jumps off the screen at me... Ayers not so much... I'm going to guarantee right now that Miller is a first rounder.

I must be one of the few that would take a RB in the first round over a 1st round LB any day. A 1st round LB doesn't necessarily help us next year. Go with a FA linebacker.

Like every year since I cant remember? lavar arrington , Carlos emmons , Keith Bulluck . Mick Boley I am sure I have missed some other than Pierce how have the others worked out?

Still, quite a few of those players are better than anything we currently have

And personally, I think Boley is worthless.

Thank god some of you are coming around. Anyway the Giants will never draft a 1st round LB and will only sign other teams castoffs.

Man.. I told my friend who's a Dallas fan to play Dez in his fantasy league.. even when Dallas has a bye.. jokingly of course.. but meaning that Dez is a fucking monster. As much as I like our recievers, none of them is a Dez or DeSean... I know next to nothing about college but this guy attacks the ball like a hawk.

Ugh! Fucking Arm Tackler will get BITCHED in the NFL. No thank you!

Well, I did see some arm tackles but he also laid the wood, too. Anyway, technique is coachable. What's not coachable is SPEED and football instincts, something we are lacking in our linebackers and we've been lacking that for a while now. That's what was jumping off the screen at me with Von Miller. Dude is a playmaker.

Some? He's spinning off his opponent on nearly every tackle.

I was going to say check out Bruce Carter But Damn check out Justin Houston

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR0L2RVId90

can play ILB/ OLB and DE

Houston... it looked to me like he was a pass rusher almost exclusively. He looked great in run support, though, as well. I think more of a 3-4 OLB or even a DE in a 4-3. I only saw one pass coverage highlight there and the QB pretty much threw it right to him, just after the 6:00 minute mark. My hope is that we get a guy who is more than just a good pass rusher, but can match up against the Brent Celeks and Jason Wittens in coverage as well. He's definitely a big boy, more suited for SAM or DE, that's for sure.
