Red Sox can't cry about Yankees' spending anymore

So many writers have posted nearly identical articles to that one and it's just plain stupid. So the Red Sox dipped into their vast resources to post a winning bid for the posting rights to Daisuke Matsuzaka. It still remains to be seen what the opening day payrolls will be. Red Sox fans don't have the right to complain but there is no denying that the 80 million rift between the highest and second highest payrolls is higher than half the teams in baseball. No matter how much we spend, the Yankees WILL spend more. So many Yankee fans will think themselves smart because they can knock down our money argument...but we don't have five of the top twelve salaries in all of major league baseball on our team (though Mussina will be out of the argument next year). According to CBS Sportsline, considering the present day value of contracts, the Yankees may soon have the top three highest salaries in all of baseball in A-rod, Jeter, and Giambi. I admit that the Red Sox are paying up the wazoo, but by the end of the offseason, the difference between the two teams should still be at least 50 million, which is still higher than at least five teams' entire payrolls.

I have to dissagree lorf. The 50 mil may not show up on the final payroll, but it still has to be factored in. You're still investing that money into a single player. Say you sign him to 4 years $30 Million. You're basically paying $20 million per year for one player.

How is that different than the yanks dipping into their vast recources every year?

Fact is the people with the most money have buy the best tos, thats just life. As long as there is no salary cap you can't complain about the Yanks willingness to spend the $$$.

Fine, factor in the posting fee with Matsuzaka's salary...the Yankees payroll will still be higher.

So that gives the Sox fans the right to still cry about the Yanks spending a boatload when you guys are spending 5 mil less? Get the fuck outta here!

Not my point. You guys cant cry about us. You see this year, we havent signed any outrageous contracts, while you have.

You realize teams have only been at it for five days and the Matsuzaka has been going on for the last two weeks, right?

doesn't matter, we can crunch figures all day. Bottom line is almost half the teams in baseball dont have 50 mil to pay all their players let alone 50 mil to talk to a guy.

Boston people, shut up.

I'll quote Sean McAdam in an article, "Do the Gettys complain about the Rockefellers?"
