Joe Thomas

I have a difficult time looking at this team and thinking it has a three year window to win a super bowl with Eli Manning. I do not see a player that has physically declined or commitment to this team diminished. Joe Thomas is one of those players as well but his commitment is to the Browns. He could very well just pack up and retire.

This team might have a three year window, or less, or more even.

Wonder if Jerry Reese thinks Joe Thomas is the one missing piece of the puzzle? If he did then why is Joe Thomas still a Brown?

Dont take it at any value but NFL network pundit "insider information guy" who isnt even close to the level of that ESPN guy is saying that the Browns either want a 1st this year (plus a few late round picks), or a first next year with some early round picks this year, or a whole slew of second and third round picks spanning both upcoming drafts.

Or a player(s) of equal value.

The Browns know they have one of the best in the game who actually wants to stay a Brown, and they won't let him go for anything other than a kings ransom.

Maybe a reason why JR isnt ready to mortgage his career or the team future on the hopes the Gints get lucky the next couple of years.

I don't think the Browns' position is that powerful.... they will continue to suck for the next 3 years so either get something of value or not...

The Giants isn't the kind of organization that goes into panic mode... I say he's worth a 2nd and a 4th.

They are the team that has the player that people want, they hold all the power, they are fine with Thomas, or a bunch of picks, I don't see why people think they wouldnt be.

And by this logic the Gints should start trading away guys like OBJ, Collins so that they can get better value since they might not be in a winning position in a few years.

Not to mention the only team in the NFL who treats players like trading cards and get away with it are the Patriots.

Not sure about giving up a second. Reese is always hot on the second picks.

Two third would be a solid deal.

You have to win now. A new QB will be 3-6 years before he starts to compete. So the guy we draft now won't make much difference to Eli now or or next QB.

The problem with the "win now" idea is that you basically fuck the dog down the road and set your team back an additional 5-6 years.

I mean I'd rather the Gints get back to wining a few years after Eli then 10-15 years after Eli.

Yes I agree, but you can also do that drafting the wrong guys.

I don't think the Browns are really in a big hurry to trade Thomas. They are likely drafting a quarterback, they probably want to protect him, and they are bolstering the o-line, they just signed Zeitler. I don't see them doing all that just to trade a LT who has actively expressed wanting to stay in Cleveland.

Not to mention they are far from starved for cap space or draft picks.

There's no logic to your argument.

The Giants and the Browns are not similar... we're a piece or two away from making a splash.... The Browns are undergoing gut renovation....

I do agree with you - I'm just stating the fact that Reese for some odd reason always pick a stud from the second round.

Adding a pro bowler like Joe Thomas will put us in serious odd to win it all - just a bit steep with the cash and draft picks.

Which makes sense for the Gints to have no problem trading away their first round pick for the next few years for some of those pieces.

The Browns have nothing to gain by losing Thomas and getting albeit more draft picks.

The Gints have zero power in the whole "trade" situation.

I don't they're going to get a very good QB in this draft so why try and draft one anyway?

Because in recent memory there are very few drafts, once in every six or seven years, that thee is one QB let alone multiple that are "sure fire" things.

Even then most of those QBs flame out and maybe only one stays in the league.

You can't just keep hoping year after year that you might be able to be in a position to draft or get one of these guys, got to take who you can when you can.

Yes we do... the power not to trade.

I think that is another reason why they still haven't found a starting QB
