No-hitter for Buchholz!

As much as I hate the Sox, there is something very special about this. Rookies pitching no-hitters is phenomenal, let alone in his second start, and even more so in the heat of a pennant chase. I do applaud Buchholz. I'm just upset the Sox got something for us to be afraid of in this chase now. :brooding:

Second start, fucking amazing.

God I hate the Sox and Yanks right now with ya'lls teams surlus of young major league pitching.

Fuck you.

If your GM wasn't such a fucking grubby asshole with us, you guys could've probably had Kennedy for Gagme. But instead he wanted two top prospects and Cabrera.

Same thing went through ym mind. Worked with Hotlanta though. I think he was trying to atone for his previous disasters.

Know whats funny? CJ Wilson has a blog on the rangers site, and even he mentions from time to time how bad the Chris Young/Adrian Gonzalez trade was. :LMAO: ........................ :brooding:

You know though, I cant see any pitcher being super dominant in that stadium.

No, we won't have any era leaders...But look at what Millwood has been doing lately. If we could get a group of guys with 4.00 era we'd be alright. Remember, they're not pitching against the stadium, they're pitching against the other pitcher, who is on the same mound.

this is true, but it hurts you guys more in the end because you play half your games there.

Where it hurts us is free agency. Unfortunately, like someone said before, whats the chances Santana will want to come to Texas to inflate his era?

But this thread is about an outstanding performance by a rookie, don't wanna turn this into a Rangers thread.

Wow, what a game...his curveball and changeup were out there in all their glory, showing why this kid will be an incredible asset. Unfortunately, he just hit 140 professional innings so there's some internal discussion as to what to do with him now. The options, I guess, are to either slip him into the rotation and maybe get a couple of starts (which would be difficult if Wakefield (who is pitching incredibly well of late) comes back) or to convert him to the pen for the stretch and playoffs...but we all know how risky a proposition that is. Either way, I'm glad I got to see this and I figure his autograph on my spork will be worth something in due time.

I thought about that. You guys are stacked in the rotation and for the most part the bullpen. What happens to him? You cant just let him take Wakefields spot after the year he is having. Touchy situation. I think you need to trade him to the Nationals. :P

It appears that they're not going to do much with him at this point, and I really think that would be the smartest move. It doesn't make sense to move him to the bullpen in light of the fact that we're already pretty strong there, and it's a role he's not familiar with. As for putting him in the rotation, I might give him another spot start if Wake doesn't come back right away, but otherwise you've already got 4 solid starters and Lester, whose confidence you don't want to hurt by inserting Buchholz in his slot. Good problem to have.

Buchholz is moving to the bullpen...the Sox were waiting on Tim Wakefield's side session before making the announcement. The Sox plan on being very careful, pitching Buchholz in "structured innings". The team hasn't let on what role he would play in the bullpen...most likely a 7th inning guy taking over Delcarmen's spot. Thansk to callups we're stacked in the pen so that probably means that Buchholz will just pitch when he can and most of the work he'll do is with the big league training staff.

speaking of the pen, hows gagne been lately?

He's been sidelined since August 26th with "discomfort in his right shoulder"...Right after he stopped tipping his pitches and started to pitch well too. Despite his limited involvement and success, the Red Sox pen felt his absence recently with some of our guys getting to the point in the season where they're tired...thank you September call ups.

Yeah, let's just say I'm very concerned. Timlin, Delcarmen, and Oki have not pitched well lately. I don't have any faith in Gagne, either, and I honestly hope his injury is season-ending.

Delcarmen has given up four earned runs in his last eleven outings, nothing to be worried about. Delcarmen seamlessly tosses scoreless innings in obscure middle relief and people tend not to notice that.

Mike Timlin has actually been amazing in the bullpen. The four runs he allowed during his 1000th appearance were his first since August 3rd (Aug 31st), a span of 13 innings.

Yeah, I guess with Timlin I was really focused on his bad appearance against Baltimore last weekend. I also worry about his health because he can go down at any time. With MDC, he's given up runs in two of his last three outings (albeit one run each time). I know the guy's been great this year, I just worry about him as the pressure increases.

When all is said and done, I'm more confident in our bullpen than almost any other in the game.

Our playoff pen will have Papelbon, Okajima, Gagne, Delcarmen, Timlin, and then possibly Buchholz and Wake or Tavarez as the long man.
