  1. 1. How should the Giants handle the QB situation

    • Trade up for Murray
      2
    • Draft Haskins (possibly having to trade up a few spots)
      0
    • Ride with Lulu
      0
    • Trade for Rosen (17th pick)
      5
    • Trade for another QB with extensive experience (Like Winston/Bridgewater)
      0
    • Trade for a younger/less experienced QB (Beathard, Kizor)
      0

The QB situation has to be dealt with one way or another. There are a few options that are realistic. How do you see the Giants fixing the QB problem for the future? I put 17th pick for Rosen because of course most of us would trade next year's 3rd rd pick for him, but I just don't see how the cards take anything but a 1st rd pick or a couple 2nds, and I can't see the Giants trading OBJ and not doing something about it the QB future.

In 2019 Draft:

  • Draft Haskins or Murray at 6
  • Trade up for Haskins or Murray
  • Draft another QB in later rd in the hopes of development

in 2020 Draft

  • Trade back in 2019 to compile picks for trading up in 2020

Trade/Free agency

  • Bridgewater
  • Beathard
  • Kizor
  • Tyrod Taylor
  • Winston

I wouldn't trade up for any QB this year so its Haskins at 6 or not at all. Perfectly ok with not drafting a QB this year and taking one next year. Kyler Murray is not being drafted in the first round.

The QB of the future is not in this draft class. They'll build for the other positions with this draft and write off '19 as a loss. That'll put us at $100+ mil under the cap in 2020. Not sure if 2020's draft is any better at QB, but that's when they make their move for the future.

If you dont take one this year, youre either starting a rookie QB next year or rolling with an extended Manning which I dont see happening. Either that or you get Tyrod Taylor in blue.

My option isnt there, same thing from my "ideal" situation thread.

I think they trade back up into the first to take a guy like Greir or Jones.

Use the #6 and #17 to draft BPA, probably one on defence and one on offense, but I could see both being used for defence.

That was my thought as well. I also can't believe the Giants would trade OBJ and not make a major move to address the long term QB situation this year. OBJ may have been a pain in the ass sometimes, but not to the extent he was a major distraction or his distractions even came close to overshadowing his value to the team. Trading him was partially because of the distraction, partially to free cap space, and these made him expendable to make a move to get a QB.

I really think this comes down to the Cards - either 17 goes to AZ for Rosen, or the Giants trade up to draft Murray.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Cardinals kept Rosen, he's on a rookie contact, and Murray could sit behind him for a year.

Not to mention it could all be a smoke screen to get the Raiders to bite on a trade.

I think youre exactly right, man. Id also offer that I feel they believed hed be detrimental to the long term development of a rookie QB, too. I want Murray and a modern NFL offense.

Then why not make the Beckham trade last year when there were all those "generational talent" QB's available? We held the #2, trade Odell for the 3 or 4 spot, and take a QB then to sit behind Eli. That way you have Barkley and your franchise QB. Nah, I'm telling you, they're not going "franchise" QB this year. There's a different plan in the works.

If the Giants really wanted Rosen or the first pick in the draft, Odell would be a Cardinal. Saquon Barkley made Odell Beckham Jr. expendable.

I was gonna make a separate thread for this but I guess I'll just ask it here.

Since the Giants have a ton of draft capital leading up to April, what would you be willing to give up for the following QBs, should they become available in a trade?

1. David Carr

2. Josh Rosen

3. Russell Wilson

Only one of the list worth a damn is Wilson and unless Pete has a stroke he'll be a Seahawk his entire career.

Carr maybe a 5th? At most.

Rosen maybe a third?

I don't know this draft class at all...but isn't Shurmur supposed to be a "QB Whisperer"? Is there a kid with a good base of measurables and skills that might not be an NFL-ready top 10 pick but is someone Shurmur would want to develp behind Eli?

I don't want to risk the future on Shurmer catching lighting in a bottle again. Some systems may hide deficient qb's, but I'd rather he work whatever magic he possesses by making a blue chip prospect the franchise qb.

I'd take any of the three - I'd trade the 17th pick for any of the three, don't see that getting it done for Wilson, and it might be too much for Carr, but I still believe Carr is a good qb that has worn out his welcome.
