2017 Combine

Recommended Posts

I only watched the O guys combine drills.

QBs are shockingly fast now a days, guess running those read type offences in college, I wouldn't mind the Gints drafting one of these second/third round guys like Nathan Peterman who seems like MacAttack would bust a nut over.

OL I don't know bunch of fat guys running around the field, dont think they honestly need to be at the combine, just watch their game film.

WRs - obviously Ross setting the new record is the big story, his stock rose greatly with the performance he turned in. There is a lot of talent here and the Gints could easily get a starting WR across from OBJ in the first two rounds. I like that Chad Hensen(?) seems to be moving up in into the day two rounds.

HBs - all looked the same to me, I will say that Mccaffyrey's kid looked impressive (baring his pitaful performance on the bench press) and I can see a team converting him to WR instead of having him play HB in the NFL.

TEs - from what I hear there are only a handful of "starting TEs" in this years draft, Gints might have to grab one in round one or else have to face getting someone in FA or hoping a late round pick develops.

Might be a year for the Gints to finally look at TE in the first, with the possibility of a QB/WR in the second round.

I'm very concerned about Chris McCaffrey at this point. He is doing just enough to jump into the first round at the combine and at best he'll be a Reggie Bush kind of player; a gimmick. Any team taking him in the first with the exception of New England would be making a mistake.

Some interesting, potential storylines. Everyone covered Ross on the 40 already.

- TE Evan Engram and Gerald Everett may have worked their way into the 1st round or at least very early 2nd.

- TE Oj Howard ran a great 40, but had a mediocre verticle jump (30 inch). Not sure if that will affect anything.

- LB Reuben Foster sent home because of some bizarre incident with a hospital employee.

- WR Mike Williams NOT running the 40. He had a very mediocre vertical jump at 32.5. Williams looked kinda sluggish in workouts IMO. I think he's the Laquon Treadwell of this draft class; potential bust in the making.

- Curtis Samuel had a very good workout all around, but it's not clear what position he plays in the NFL. He worked out with the WRs. Maybe he's a Reggie Bush type?

- The two Michigan WRs Darboh and Chesson ran faster than I expected and I think they looked good. Both have great size (6'2 and 6'3) and had decent vertical jumps to support (36 inches), plus good arm length. Would love if we snagged one of them in the 2nd or 3rd.

- I have no idea how to evaluate OLs, lol

- For QBs, Tribusky, Mahomes, and Webb looked good. I didn't see Kizer. Peterman, who I was eager to see, looked awkward throwing the ball (footwork looked off balance, but maybe coaching can correct this). Watson was meh...didn't seem to stand out, and threw a few fluffers and floaters. I don't know why people get excited for him.

Would love if we snagged Davis Webb in the 3rd as a backup and developmental prospect. The guy has a cannon, looked poised and accurate. Ran much better than I thought he would. I assume Mahomes will be taken high, before we can draft him so maybe Webb is the QB of the future.

And yes I know Webb played in a spread, short attack offense, but he has all the traits, and the hope is he backs up Eli for a few years, learns, and develops.

Besides, McAdoo's similar short attack game might suit him.

Webb reminds me of a Brock OverpaidWilder and Chad Pennington.

He can hit anyone inside the 10 but anything outside of the 15 it's a fucking guess if it's gonna hit the ground, sail, or end up in the DBs hands.

Then again I guess that's like Eli now so nothing new LOL

Reggie Bush was a gimmick because he had some of the worst field vision that I've ever seen. Spectacular measurables, but it took the guy like eight years to figure out the first thing about following a block.

Here's what I think will happen. We blew over half of our cap space on JPP. We don't appear to have the spending power to bid/compete with other teams to bring in an LT and/or quality RG or RT. Thus, we will have to draft OL on days one and two, in a draft where this really isn't a deep draft for OL, and where there aren't any LT standouts in particular. Thus, any OL rookies will likely be developmental and will make mistakes during seasons one and probably two, and we might even need yet another year of Flowers at LT.

In the process, we will be missing out on some of the most intriguing TE prospects I've seen in some time, which could open up our offense: Engram, Everett, Howard, or Njoku.

All to bring Jason "Can-Opener Hand" Pierre Paul back. We also don't appear to have the bidding power to bring back Hankins (some other team is going to offer him like 5 years 45 mil), so we'll also have to find a DT in the first three or four rounds, or find a FA DT.

So at best, we bring back the same team we had last year, the same team that can't run with the big dogs in the playoffs, can't maintain a consistent offense that can put up points and control the ball, and can't give the defense a rest once in a while.

I wouldn't pay Hankins anywhere near $45 million for 5 years unless I was the New England Patriots. I think Hankins would be lucky to get $20 million.

I wouldn't either, but someone else will pay him that.

Probly but this years Fa DT class is loaded

Hankins is young so he should get paid

We can bring in a nice 3 tech Vet as a cheaper stop gap next to Snacks no problem

Also tagging JPp was the proper decision as painful as it is to pay that money over 1 year

Henderson RB Coastal. Josh Norman's second coming out of dirty myrtle

De'Angelo Henderson really raised his stock. I see Maurice Jones-Drew comparisons, except DH I think is faster. He looked like a piece of chiseled granite and ran exceptionally well. Was on the round 7 - UDFA radar pre-combine, now expect him to be drafted anywhere between rounds 4-6. Very impressed.

I dont think we can let Howard go to Dallas

True, but this TE class is deep. Howard, Engram, Ojoku, or Everett could fall to the cowboys.

This is potentially one of the best TE classes in years. I hope we address the OL in Free Agency, so that we can use our 1st pick instead on one of these TEs.

Agreed on Williams and no one seems to be talking about. He wasn't injured and not participating allowed other receivers to jump him

Yep Webb is really bad. He has god awful footwork and has never taken a snap under center, he sailed a pass over the head of a receiver on a out route at the combine. The QB I want is Jerod Evans

Jerrod Evans us terrible. We seem to always see things so different with the draft every year.

Webb is certainly not a finished product and will need to be an understudy, but he's light years ahead of Evans, who will never be an NFL QB. He's simply not an NFL passer. Webb has tools and ability to get there as an NFL starter, one day.

Evans has great deep touch, leds his receivers well on underneath throws and can sense pressure. His delivery is a bit if a mess, it's a bit of a wind up. I am not sure he would fit he would fit in the WCO and would be better in a vertical offense like Arizona or Baltimore

Don' t forget George Kittle out of Iowa.....other then the bench press...he was in the top 3 of pretty much every one of these TE drills.

He has great hands.....ran a 4.53 40......and LOVES to block.

Only had 20 catches last year...but he played most of it on a broken foot.

I would not be disappointed if the Gmen grabbed him up in the 3rd round...supposedly his stock is shooting up big time.
