A Leader of Men.

Shurmur doesn't strike me as being a leader of men. Here's an older "inspirational" speech after a Browns' win.

And a newer interview this week.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... men respond to leaders. This guy not only doesn't have a strong tone of voice, but he also has terrible body language... looking away from the camera, frowning, shrugging, etc. He's not assertive.

It's gonna be a long five seasons, fellas. But there is a silver lining.

I don't know man... if a guy is going to go full Lombardi, he better fucking BE Lombardi, or guys will just roll their eyes and tune it out.

Game recognizes game. They're all pros, those guys will gravitate to competence far more so than a middle aged cheerleader.

That's true, but they'll be turned off by ho-hum as well. Belichick is pretty drab, but you know he means business.

I'm not convinced Shurmur means business. He reminds me of a lot of the weak bosses I used to work for.

Exactly Sep. A head coach either needs to be feared, or has to be a inspiring, fire kinda guy. Even better, both. WTH made anyone in the office say that this was the guy? I just cant see this playing out well.

Boring and Uninspiring. Pretty much what I get out of him too.

kind of a weird article. It softly blames Shurmer for the collapse of Chip Kelly's offense, while giving only passing acknowledgement of what that same offense did when Shurmer had full control (which we should remember well, that 35 point drubbing to close out 2015).

It also states that he didn't 'improve' QB stats.... as if Foles didn't have utterly insane numbers in that time before the league caught on to Chip Kelly's offense.

I hear you on the personality issue though. Soft spoken, mild mannered.... not really items you'd put on the left side of a pro-con list. ...

That article is ridiculous. I can wait until the preseason to start forming my opinion on the coaching ability of Pat Shurmur and rely on the decision making of the front office until that time.

Pretty much, check out the dudes other articles and all he does is suck the Egils dick over and over again, and states the rest of the NFL is trash when compared to the all mighty Egils who had the Superbowl run "all planned out" in the offseson.

Honestly is anything Shurmur sounds more like Bill Billybillycheck than he does Chucky, which isnt a bad thing IMO. These "rah rah rah" coaches are 9/10 more talk and no results, "Give me respect and we'll win" while the team tanks out at 3-13 and everyone gives up on them. There's a reason why guys like Gruden, Tomlin, Sexy Rexy, etc all dont have continued success.

I'll give you Rex Ryan. The other two coaches have Super Bowl rings and Tomlin has a continued track record of success. What exactly does Shurmur have? A 9-23 record as a head coach and the 10th ranked offense this season?

I agree that the Jim Swartzes and Jim Harbaughs of the league flame out... that's not what I'm looking for in a coach. What any organization needs isn't necessarily a rah-rah guy but an inspiring guy. Shurmur is 52 years old... if he was gonna be an inspirational coach, it probably would have happened by now.

Maybe the gravitas of Gettleman can carry the team for a bit but like I said, I've worked for guys like Shurmur and by the end of year two shit usually comes unraveled.

He is an Eagles sportswriter so that is his job. I found the article ridiculous because it had no substance related to the topic.
