BlueInCanada
Despite being touted as a "strong, mean, mauling guard" he's been playing like a real bitch so far. He couldnt stop the Lions pass rush to save his life, and hasnt really been the guy the RBs have been running behind (Omameh) Maybe he's just saving all his "mean" power for the regular season. Tempest
He is still a rookie, offensive line is still a work in progress and this is still the preseason. I expect Hernandez to have some trouble this year, most rookie offensive linemen do.

Flowers is no better on the right side and there's a reason Omameh is on his 4th team in 5 years. That side is going to be a problem.

Gman329
We must be watching different games! I see the second coming of John Jerry. I see the guy who the Jags made it a priority to replace.

Yeah I was watching that game as well. The knock on Omameh is that he is a better run blocker than pass protector. If only we could merge Omameh & Jerry; Jeromeh would be a solid starter. CrazedDogs
I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that none of us can agree on the quality of OL play so far... They're all equally bad or equally good. Solder is obviously the best of the group. And I paid attention to Halapio too --- not bad, he will be the center I think. Tempest
You're right.....but it's troubling when the early performance is consistent with the resume. I look at Omameh and see the weak link in a team that went deep in the playoffs. Right side of the offensive line is going to be troublesome but at least Manning can see the trouble coming at move to his left now. Hopefully the running game can undercut the pass rush. Gman329
PFF's grades on Giant OL Friday night: Nate Solder 73.5 Will Hernandez 77.5 John Halapio 58.9 Patrick Omameh 51.9 Erick Flowers 64.8 So outside of the one jail break, on the play originally called a fumble, then overturned to an incomplete pass, I guess Flowers didn't play that badly. Not great but not a disaster, either.

I know that elite players at a position usually grade out about 90 overall, good is in that 75 - 90 range, but I'm not sure what '51.9' is telling us --- is that acceptably average? Poor? I'll go with poor if it is based on the NFL grading system. The NFL hangs grades on guys prior to the draft and players receiving 50 were considered NFL backups. Yeah, if you look at all of Webbs throws, most of the pressures are coming from Webbs right sides. Especially from Patricks omanlookout.
gmenroc
If the line doesn't improve, Barkley will be wasted...and resigning Beckham may not make a whole lot of sense if he can't get the ball or if the offense is so one dimensional. I belueve more than most that it all starts up front. Don't need all pro bowlers..but competance at least

mastershake
I thought Hernandez was fine...also it's still only pre-season, game 2. But yeah, 7-9 or 8-8 is likely with this team this year.
