The New York Giants held a special Town Hall for season ticket holders on Tuesday night at the Beacon Theatre. Fans had the opportunity to hear stories from Giants greats of past and present. The event was hosted by Bob Papa and featured Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, Jon Beasonand David Diehl. Everyon had their opportunity to shine, but Manning took over with his witty and lighthearted jokes and banter.
For years, Giants fans have wondered what Manning meant when he would scream "Omaha!" as the play clock wound down, during his time in Kevin Gilbride's offense. Now that Gilbride is gone and the Omahah call has been retired, Manning was finally able to share the true meaning of the call.
"We don't have Omaha anymore," Manning said. "Omaha is not in the offense. I think I can actually finally tell you what Omaha is. Bascially Omaha was maybe we change the play, or maybe we change the protection or Diehl had to tie his shoe or someitng and was taking forever … and the play clock is running down and Omaha just told everybody to put their hand on the ground, shut up and the ball’s about to be snapped.
“So I would say Omaha, I would say it again and then ‘set hut’ and do whatever you think you need to be doing and let’s go play football.”
Later in the night, Manning shared a Super Bowl story. After immediately realizing that he won the championship, an odd feeling overcame Manning. He shared it with everyone.
"You have that feeling you're like: 'Just hug me, somebody!'"
Diehl followed up by asking Manning who he hugged.
"I hugged Jeff Feagles, the punter."
The Town Hall was an excellent success, and the event gave some fans a chance to feel connected to the team they love on a personal level.
