Andy Reid Out in Philly

The Philadelphia Eagles haven't wasted time delaying the inevitable.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that coach Andy Reid was informed during a Friday meeting with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie that he would be fired after Sunday's game against the New York Giants, according to two sources. The Eagles are expected to formally announce Reid's firing Monday.

The Eagles strongly deny the report, saying Lurie and Reid will meet Monday.

No matter when the news becomes official, the Reid era has ended in ignominious fashion. The team finished a 4-12 season with a 42-7 loss against the New York Giants.

Reid was the longest tenured coach in the NFL at 14 seasons, going 130-92-1 in the regular season. He led the Eagles to nine playoff appearances, including five NFC title games and a Super Bowl appearance.

The quick decision comes as no surprise. The Eagles are expected to aggressively go after some of the big names available in the coaching market. Oregon coach Chip Kelly and Penn State coach Bill O'Brien have been tied to Philadelphia in reports.

Reid, meanwhile, doesn't figure to be out of work for long. Multiple reports have suggested the Reid is interested in the San Diego Chargers job, but Albert Breer of NFL.com reports that the interest does not appear to be mutual. Reid is going to want a lot of personnel control and that would not be the situation in San Diego.

Lurie surely regrets bringing Reid back this season. The Eagles owner publicly read Reid the riot act after last season and said that an 8-8 record would not be acceptable. No one had any idea that things would get much, much worse.

Again, I think the Eagles need to suck it up and keep him, let him rebuild. The guy can coach, that team quit on him months ago.

This, Lurie's the one who the all the sudden, became Dan Snyder and signed a bunch of splashy names, which turned out to be just splashy names.

So I wonder who is on Lurie's short list?

Rich Kotite's son. Seriously, who the fuck are they going to get? I understand the fans frustration of falling short continuously but Reid won a lot of games. The answer better be a good one. They can't replace him with some schlub or a coordinator getting his first crack at a head coaching gig.

He'll get a HC job somewhere and end up taking the team into the playoffs while the Eagles continue to self implode for a number of seasons.

Eagles fans dont know how good of a combo Westbrook/McNabb was until it's gone.

FTFY

Brian Westbrook and McNabb covered up a lot of ineptitude by Reid....mix in guys like Troy Vincent and Brian Dawkins on stellar defenses.....and hell, if Maclin and Desean Jackson were on their team instead of Fred Ex, Thrash, and Pinkston for all those years, they would probably have won a SB. I couldn't believe that statistic that Reid's Eagles went to 4 NFC Championship games in a row. I completely forgot about that.

There's a longer list of guys who Reid had In Philly that were stars there and the minute they left weren't worth a shit, and we went and got some of the fuckers. Can anyone say Jeremiah Trotter?

No kidding, guy went to DC and stunk it up so bad they released him, guess who picked him up and suddenly he got a new lease on life.

The solution to Kick Offs and Punt Returns who made Jacobs look like a ballerina ...as he seemed to have cement in his shoes...what did he average...5 yards per return...and didn't he use to kill us.

Honestly he might be more respected by Giant fans than Philly fans, Seriously, one superbowl appeareance, how many winning seasons did he have and divisions did he win. He always had our number. And those fuckers couldn't wait to dump his ass.

Of all the cities that have sports franchises, that's one city who deserve a winning team less than anyone.
