TE Garrett Mills a day 2 option?

TE Garrett Mills (Tulsa) could be an interesting option for the Giants on day 2 of the draft.

He has great quickness (0.59 - 40 time/short shuttle difference) and good speed (4.64 40 time)

He weighed in at at 6'1" 241 lbs

Mills is a solid runner, decent blocker and has very good hands

Mills would be a decent #3 TE option behind Shiancoe, would backup Jum Finn, and could also play H-Back. He would also be a quality special teams player.

Extra TE depth could be important as Shiancoe will only have a 1 year tender. Mills with his versatility would be a usefull addition for the Giants.

I'm all for getting a TE that will show up for the voluntary offseason workouts, run routes with the Giant QBs, and make football conditioning more important than attending fashion shows and hotel openings.

The fact that Shiancoe only will have a 1 year deal, indicates to me, the front office are not sold on him.

Sean Berton was not as good as advertised

I think we do need to add a good TE into the mix.

Mills has top intangibles, is a hard worker and team player.

I think that this draft is extremely important for the Giants. They have several holes that need to be filled and grabbing a TE is far down on the priority list. I agree that we after this year we will need a new blocking tight end, but that is what I'd focus on. A guy whose blocking skills are great, hands dont matter so much. I think we address this next offseason.

I think drafting a TE will be a waste of a pick. We are fine with Shaincoe and Berton as backups. If Berton isnt brought back we should replace him with a cheap FA. But I feel Berton did a solid job and should be brought back to at least compete in camp.

We do have a few needs, but not that many.

Say we get resign Will Allen or another free agent. And solid a sign free agent DT, FS and WR

and we draft a LB, DT, FS, CB and WR

that is all our positions of need addressed with two extra picks available (assuming we don't trade down)

With the depth at TE this year, if we get the chance of grabbing a good talent in later rounds, it should be considered.

There is a big difference between a pure blocking TE and a good blocking TE with decent hands, particularly in the two tight end formations. Also the NFL is really looking for multi-dimensional fullbacks. Mills also fits this role

Way to get him going...

I am actually interested in getting a TE in the second round. He looks like a guy who would be of some value for a day 2 pick and we are in need of depth at TE considering Shiancoe is shit and his contract is almost up and shockey has not been able to play a full season yet.

Shianco is far from "shit"...he has drastically improved his blocking...while he isn't exactly dominating he is solid in that area. Though he will likely only be with us one more season he is far from "shit"...

Drafted mostly as a catching TE... was actually supposed to "break out" this season having at least better catching stats. Proved that he can't play as #1 TE even against the Raiders.

Maybe shit was harsh due to his ability to block but he hasn't reached his expectations, when he has gotten the oppurtunity.

I agree he has not reached his potential...but he is at the very least a solid blocker....

I think bringing in a TE to compete with Shanc and Berton would be a good move. It's a deep draft for TE's, and Shiancoe hasn't necassarily been that solid for us. He's been very inconsistent, from the penalties, to the dropped passes, to the lack of receiving production. Berten has been very good on special teams, but I'd like to see an additional TE brought in to compete with those 2.
