a new CBA helps the Redskins, haven't you read any of the 20 posts directed at you on this subject?

New deal is better then no deal. If there is a deal, a cap would be in place. That would still keep the Skins in cap hell.

What exactly does that mean for us?

Who knows? It really would depend because if there was no cap, we would've been put in the cellar for spending money like let's say the Devil Rays or if we spent money on players in FA like the Yankees. All I know is, we need this deal to come together.

nothing really. no uncapped year in 07, no strike in 08. Free agency could be pushed back until March 10th to give everyone time to review the new agreement

And it also screws the Redskins.

Apparently, you've been the one not looking at the "20 posts directed right at me" for this.

I don't think you understand the concept. If the CBA does go through, then the salary cap is in place. If it is in place, the Skins are fully affected by it unless it goes to an unbelievably high amount of money.

No, extending the deal helps the redskins be able to move money to other years that they wouldn't be able to do without it. It really saves the Redskins from having to cut a shit load of guys, they are still in shitt position but it helps. Also there was no chance the league would operate in a no cap situation, so there is and was no threat of the Redskins outspending everyone for every free agent like the Yankees

come on bro reading is fundamental

Lastly, while it may seem that teams like Washington will go crazy in an uncapped market in the short term it may hurt them. Fat Lenny had a good article about this recently in which one AFC Cap Manager said he ran all the figures on the Skins for the comng season and if a CBA is NOT approved they'll be unable to meet the salary cap. In that scenario the team would get gutted worse than a fish, and even cutting the players wouldn't provide as much cap relief as one might think as in most cases their cap hit would accelerate to this season. Regardless, if the CBA isn't approved prior to this season the Redskins are screwed. Whereas if it is approved then the Skins have room to move as they can restructure contracts to allow for '07 and beyon cap charges.

It was either this or no cap. I'm liking this better. With no cap, the Skins could get away with this and do so much more. I just want a realistic projection of what the new cap numbers would be.

The historical and continued success of the NFL is rooted in the implementation and adherence to a ssalary cap. Anyone who cares about the overall wellfare of the league should be hoping that a new CBA is reached, otherwise a lot of the reasons behind the strength of the NFL are compromised.

I still cannot believe we are talking about the SKINS. I will say this for the last time, no team needs a new CBA in place to operate during the 06' season than the SKINS, its been reported, said, written, stated, blurted etc by everyone for days now. I will not repeat for the umpteenth time why this is the case, because quite frankly if no one can figure it out by now you never will. No new CBA just kills the Skins in 06.

As for the agreement I heard today on Sirrius it could be anywhere from 100-110 for 06 now. That means all the teams get more cap room and the free agent class of 06 makes out like bandits.

Then I guess what we have to hope for is for the agreement to be made during the 2006 season, not off-season.

But that wait may not be worth it stresswise because after one disastrous season by the Skins, they'll be back with a free-spending off-season if there is no cap.

Why does everyone keep assuming that the Skins will become the Yankees if no cap is in place?

Because the Skins have the most profit in the NFL with their tv network and all other stuff and even when there was a cap in place, Snyder spent like crazy.

It is no guarantee he would spend like the Yankees but it is almost a sure bet he would be paying at will.

There is no relationship between Snyder's expenditures under the salary cap and Redskins revenues.

The salary cap is money derived from NFL Shared Revenues. A team owner's individual wealth (as well as the profitability of the franchise) has nothing to do with the salary cap ... they are separate entities. Owner's don't play players out of their own pockets; that's not how it works.

Thus, if a cap is in place, it makes no difference if the team owner is Bill Gates or your truly, as both of us will have X amount of dollars to spend on player salaries ... and that money is allocated to us from the NFL.

So, if there was no cap in place, presumably the teams with the wealthiest and most ambitious owners would be at a competitive advantage. That means Snyder will sign an insane amount of player's, right? Wrong. I'll let you on a secret: the majority of NFL owners have more disposable income than Dan Snyder, despite the profits his franchise makes. Synder is still paying off the massive mortgage he took out to buy the team...

Agreed. Look what the lack of a salary cap has done to baseball. I've nearly completely lost interest in the sport.

I still love baseball, but you are absolutely right about the impact of no salary cap. The same franchises are annually losers ... Tigers, Royals, Devil Rays, etc. Having bottom feeders that cannot attract fans and maintain some type of competitive balance hurts the league and the consumer.

I've actually gotten into baseball more and more over the last few years but that has no relevance to the fact of there being no cap. Despite the fact that it sucks not having a cap in basbeall, it gives us fans an oppurtunity to appreciate what GMs are really capable of and how important they are, like Billy Beane and the GM of the Twins.
