i wouldn't take him over cooper

Me neither, I really like Cooper a lot.

But If cooper is gone I think I might take Scherff (if available) over a pass rusher, DT, the other 2 WRs or a DB. Only other OL I like is Collins, I don't like Peat at all.

It all depends on where they have him pegged. If he's pegged as a LT, then pull the trigger. If he's a RT only, he's more top 15 to me as opposed to top 10. If he's a G, he's a 20-40 overall pick.

I haven't watched tape on the guy, nor will I likely. I would have to ask the question whether he's a top 10 pick because he's the highest rated OT, or is he truly a top 10 pick?

Given OLine depth, I think it's absolutely crucial we address it in the draft...possibly twice. However, given the offense McAdoo is running, if the ball is getting out quicker, the offensive line need only hold their blocks for so long. And because of that, I have to think that our issues on defense last year are more glaring. Add to that JPP being on a 1-year deal and I feel the defensive line and linebackers are more in need of a shot of youth than the offense.

So while I wouldn't hate the Scherff pick, I would prefer a D-Line or OLB candidate. If the top D-Line guys and OLB guys go 1-8, then Scherff it is.

Look at the game film. Dude's feet are too slow to play LT, and probably RT. I mean... they're pathetically, ridiculously slow. NFL speed rushers will eat that kid alive.

He's a guard, and you don't take a guard at 9.

We're going WR or pass rusher.

Good post, good points.

I think if we take him it'll be to start at RT day 1, moving Pugh inside for a bit. Then in year 2 or 3 move Scherff to LT if Beatty becomes expendable.

That said Im all for defense if Cooper is off the board.

Haven't seen game film just YouTube clips and his feet appeared to be very quick. But if his feet are slow then I agree. I'm not an expert on grading OL to be honest, but the 7.07 3 cone is pretty crazy and caught my eye

Not sure how the Giants pass on an offensive lineman in the first after we passed on fixing the offensive line in free agency.

Reese has done the same in the past where we clearly have needs going into the draft (LB and TE) and he completely ignores it.

On the plus side, he will go all out and sign an Aaron Curry or trade for a Keith Rivers.

This isn't a linebacker/tight end situation. Giants need a blue chip talent for the offensive line if there is any hope of not repeating last season or worse.

I don't think his feet are slow, He just lunges instead latching on to his defender and controlling him . I posted a game on him in another thread, which was his worst game. This is his best game.

Maybe I'm just crazy but his feet looked slow in that video too.

This guy is not an NFL tackle, guys. I think he's an All Pro guard, but not a tackle.

95% of the time I'm no fan of picking an OL in the top 10... this is one of those times. Robert Gallery anyone?

Well now he was a top 5 pick and turned out to be a very good guard being paid like the next Walter Jones and that is a bad deal. Scherf at 9 under the new CBA is a safe solid pick.

I agree he's a guard and he's a phone booth guard at that. I don't like him at 9 at all.

You could make that argument for every position, especially QB. Except for Kickers and Punters that is. There's never been a top ten K or P bust! They're a sure-fire pick!

Part of my opinion is shaped by my desire to go Defense in the 1st round. McAdoo got his guy last year... Spags should get his this year... but again, I know it's BPA anyway.

I think we're either going "best pass rusher available" or WR.

I just watched it, thanks for posting. I don't see the slow feet either, they look plenty quick to me. And in light of his vertical leap and 3 cone at the pro day, he obviously has plenty of foot speed and explosiveness.

I took away a concern from this video though: it looked to me like he went to sleep out there on more than a few of those plays. I don't know if that will translate to the pros, it may not be a serious issue at the next level because he'll be challenged on every play, but in this game Ohio St. obviously felt it was a waste of time to even try to rush the passer on Scherff's side. And then late in the game you start to see him lunging a bit in pass protection, I believe not because his feet are too slow, but because he took for granted that he would easily beat his man.

Yes, he has power but doesn't finish his guy. I wanted to see more pancake blocks
