I strongly disagree. He made 2 good plays, mostly got swallowed up and taken out of plays in the run game. He can't blockshed for shit.

Exactly.

Remember that time I said we should've signed Gerald Hodges? THIS is what I was talking about. Another mediocre TE ate us alive last night.

He can be coached to shed blocks better but the instincts he flashed for getting to the ball can't. Mark me down as cautiously optimistic. I can't wait to see more BJ though.

First, Ebron is a pretty good TE, second, the SS usually covers the TE.

Depends on the defensive call. Sometimes the LB drops into coverage......and when there are only two on the field, which is often the case, there isn't really a "Middle". Other times, a RB is his responsibility, either stopping the run or covering out of the backfield. If he's "spying" the QB, then yes, he has to contain the scramble.....but I don't think that was the case on most of those Stafford runs Monday night. I think our front four lost contain a few times.

A little prospective Jim...

A undrafted Rookie....who wasn't supposed to make the team...and when he did make it was supposed to be cannon fodder on STs....starting his first game....as a 3 down LB......(who acted like he actually wanted to be there from the 1st to the 4th quarter)...who.... made two really good plays..was close on a couple of others........and didn't shed blocks well...in the general vicinity the ball was going....I got no problem with him thus far.

Fuck...lets try him at left tackle next week. He wont quit at least.

Makes sense.

Ebron is NOT a good TE. In fact, he's widely considered a bust.

Not the LB's fault on the touchdown... that was our fantastic ballhawking free safety who keeps tracking the ball poorly... but there were a number of other passes in the flat that should have been covered that weren't.

Beg to differ! Ebron's problem has been staying healthy. When not hurt, he's been pretty good - over 700 yards in 13 games last year and the Lions have already picked up his 5th year option for 2018. Doesn't sound like they think he's a bust. I will give you that he hasn't put up big numbers, because he's hurt too damn often but the guy has talent.

I honestly don't get to watch too many Lions games, so I'm pretty much going on PFF grades and fantasy numbers, both of which are bad.

But to put things in perspective, 87-year-old Jason Witten sure looked good catching that TD two weeks ago... something I've been saying for ten years. At some point we'll have a GM who thinks linebackers are a worthwhile unit on the team, possibly sooner than later depending on how this season goes.
