What would the franchise tag hit be? Like 12+ anyway?

This year the tag for a WR is 14 million.

With the contracts that Diggs just signed and Bryant will sign expect it to be upwards of 16+ million when OBJ is looking for a new contract.

I had no idea they hadnt even been talking yet. I guess they were waiting to see him in camp?

Absolutely. They wanted to see him in camp, not only fully healthy but also fully committed to football and the New York Giants. From reports, he's checked all the boxes.

OBJ has been nothing but class and a professional this off season and people still have the nerve to call him immature on BBI lol

Best WR the Giants will ever see and people still think we should let him walk.

Ppl are fn idiots.

I agree. He has maintained stoic silence without running his mouth off on anything. Even when probed about Norman multiple times he has only said generic stuff like looking forward to competing against a terrific player twice a year etc etc. But for some reason people still are almost itching for him to fuck up - almost hoping for it. Dont get it - I guess it goes with being that much of a highlight reel specialist. He has been nothing but class - including when people went mental over some video and it all fucking died down as it should.

Hope they get the contract thing done soon.

The problem is the cap... I don't think the Giants are being dicks... Eli is taking a huge chunks then you have stars like Collins, Engram, OBJ, and Barkley... it's a massive balancing act and I don't know how the Giants will afford all of these guys... granted other teams somehow find a way but still.

This is Gettlemans first year so most of that was none of his doing. Give him time to weed the garden . Although I still do not know why Herzlich is still there.

Is there any way that Eli could take a pay cut? I hate how he's regressing and he's getting paid good money that could be moved elsewhere to the younger guys?

I think they can restructure all the bonuses in a contract so it might not be worth as much if he plays a full 16 games, etc, but I think they cant take a pay cut to guaranteed money, at most they can just push it off to another year.

The only obstacle to anything here is Eli objecting.

Not true, the team could come out with a contract stating "If Eli doesnt complete a full 16 game season, he loses his guaranteed money for the year"

Eli rejects and it's "HURR DEE DURR DEE ELI AINT NO TEAM PLAYER"

Same people who think the reason Joey Bosa was having contract problems was him simply not accepting lol

The notion that you can't negotiate a new contract, even if Eli is willing, is absurd.

Show me I said where you cant negotiate.

I'm just saying the team has all the power in terms of what the contract is, and they usually never start high.

Unless you're talking about cutting Eli's compensation, there's no reason from Eli's end of things that they couldn't renegotiate. He has over $10 million in salary this season to play with.

The bigger question is, would the Giants go in for that? A move to reduce 2018 cap just pushes that hit off in to future years, and with Eli getting up there in years do we really want to lock in on him beyond 2019?
